Krakit Posted September 18, 2002 Posted September 18, 2002 I don't know about anyone else, but when products come out under $500, my wallet hand begins to itch. This item looks sweet and (judging by the online demos) sounds just as good. I have promised myself that I would never buy another dedicated keyboard synth (I'm a module + controller man since 1997), but this little cutie only has little itty bitty keys! Keys that to me are like a deluxe version of the "you can use some of the buttons as keys" philosophy, so they don't really count . Still, it comes with pitch/mod wheels too. It isn't rack mountable, but then, neither is my Yamaha AN200. Have a look for yourself Carl
Botch. Posted September 18, 2002 Posted September 18, 2002 Don't need another synth but I've always wanted a vocoder, for $400 this may be it! Botch "Eccentric language often is symptomatic of peculiar thinking" - George Will www.puddlestone.net
Monkey Mouse Posted September 18, 2002 Posted September 18, 2002 I saw it on Korg's site the other day. Supposedly it has the same synth engine as the MS2000 without the complexity of mega knobs (I'm not a player by any rate). Gonna look into it when it hits the stores. Live 6, Battery 3, Project 5, Atmosphere, Albino 2, Minimoog V, Oddity, Nord 2X, Proteus 2K ***I can't play for sh*t, but I can sequence like a muthaf*ck*r***
Unisys Posted September 19, 2002 Posted September 19, 2002 I watched the video demo on korg's site yesterday and it seems pretty impressive for the price and easy to use. I also thought the vocoder sounded great considering it's 8 bands and the microphone that comes with it looks like some old Fisher Price kiddy mic attachment. Guess you don't have to have a $700 condensor microphone with phantom power to sound good through MicroKorg's vocoder ! Two minds are better than one.
DJDM Posted September 19, 2002 Posted September 19, 2002 Thanks for the link Krakit. I looked into it and was really excited about it until I noticed the fact that it has a mini-keyboard... Yuch! I guess I will have to save up for the MS2000 as I would love to have a controller for Reason on a laptop that I can port around and use live. The Vocoder would be a big plus as well. Damn! And it looked so promising. - DJDM DJDM.com
Unisys Posted September 20, 2002 Posted September 20, 2002 True the bad thing is theres only 37 keys which can get very annoying. I found that out when playing a Virus Indigo (also 37 Keys) the other day but man those filters were sweet ! The microkorg is only $400 though so it's not like I'd expect a 88 key synth for that price...lol Two minds are better than one.
Krakit Posted September 20, 2002 Author Posted September 20, 2002 Well like I pointed out before, I think the keys are there more for sound tweaking than performance. When I get one (notice the operative word is "when"), I going to be playing a MIDI controller through it exclusively. I'll just be using the onboard keys while creating new sounds. Carl
