dma Posted September 12, 2002 Posted September 12, 2002 hey guys, i currently own a Triton pro but am considering getting something different. i have an opportunity to get a kurzweil at factory price, so i've been looking at the k2600 and pc2 models. also, a friend commented on the Motif by Yamaha. i'm mainly after sound quality since i use it mostly for recording. it would be the backbone in my studio so something that's got a lot of programs and memory is a plus. any advice? thanks in advance!
Synthguy Posted September 12, 2002 Posted September 12, 2002 Jeepers...lemme see. The raw samples sound better on the Triton, whereas the Kurzweil is a better synthesizer. The filters are a lot more flexible on the 2600, but they have more analog snap on the Triton. The KDFX unit has fantastic studio quality effects, while the Triton has a wider variety and probably more available at once. The Triton has some wonderful expansions, such as the MOSS synthesizer. I don't think one replaces the other as much as complements. I do think personally the better solo instruments are the Triton, Motif, S90, XV-88 and Fantom. This is a good start. This keyboard solo has obviously been tampered with!
Postman Posted September 12, 2002 Posted September 12, 2002 It depends on why you want to get rid of the Triton. If it's a technical issue, then maybe we can help you make an objective decision. If you just want a new sound, you're on your own. How should we know what you like? Buy the one that sounds best to your ears. You're not going to be as happy with anything else.
ed hamilton Posted September 14, 2002 Posted September 14, 2002 Kurzweil has had some serious reliabiltiy problems and there parts department is the worst at shipping the part you need quickly!!!!! My motif has replaced my triton for just about everything except pad sounds and whacky cool things. Pianos, bass, rhodes, strings, organs etc etc all are better in motif. If you use your triton as your sequencer KEEP IT. it is by far the easiest to use. Motif's sequencer is a nightmare. It all depends on what you need you main synth to do for you. I find I need a few synths to cover all the bases. Triton and motif complement each other. I sold my K2500 after I realized that months had gone by without even turning it on.
Synthguy Posted September 14, 2002 Posted September 14, 2002 The Triton sequencer rocks! Forgot that part. The Roland sequencers are the best of the workstations, but the Triton is a beast of a synth. No wonder it's a standard these days. This keyboard solo has obviously been tampered with!
