Wiggum Posted September 9, 2002 Posted September 9, 2002 Hey all, I'm sure you've seen the posts and/or news about the upcoming Doors tour (Robbie Krieger, Ray Manzarek, Ian Astbury, and Stewart Copeland), and I'm dying to see what Ray will use on stage. I pray that he has the sensibility to use a real combo organ (either a Vox or his Gibson). A Fender piano bass would likewise be nice. And to top it off, a B3/C3 would be great for the tracks that require it. As for the other sounds, I wouldn't be disappointed by digital substitutes (electric pianos, harpsichords, celestes, acoustic piano, distorted synths, etc). It will be interesting...... Wiggum
Cowfingers Posted September 17, 2002 Posted September 17, 2002 well he'll have to have his rhodes bass - thats just a given...it wouldnt be him without it, but seeing as he used a good couple of organs and Electric-Pianos over the years, i wonder will he do somthing crazy like have a controller connected to B4 and some kind of wurlitzer/rhodes softsynth like that lounge-lizard thing. That would surely cover all his sounds wouldnt it? and would leave him with just one board to rest the bass on. just a thought anyway Visit my band : www.neonfleacircus.net or www.myspace.com/neonfleacircus
Krakit Posted September 17, 2002 Posted September 17, 2002 I imagine that he'll use a Vox Jaguar or Continental and a Rhodes piano bass. I also used a Korg CX-3 and my Roland JX-8P to catch the rest of the sounds when I was in the Soft Parade. I think that's all you need for any Doors song. A single polyphonic synth, B3 emulator and the original stage rig. I also used a DX100 for the thunder sounds for Rider on the Storm, but I imagine that Ray will have a sound guy provide actual thunder samples. Carl

MellonHead Posted September 18, 2002 Posted September 18, 2002 There was a picture of him (along with a review of their performance) in our local paper after they played here (LA) recently, and he was sitting behind an Alesis keyboard. Did not see any keyboard bass but the angle of the photograph may have prevented that.
b3keys Posted September 20, 2002 Posted September 20, 2002 Actually, John Densmore will be playing on select dates. He has tendonitis, which is preventing him from drumming the whole tour. Stewart Copeland of the Police will behind the skins!
