CP Posted September 8, 2002 Posted September 8, 2002 Is it a Fender Rhodes? My P80 doesn't have that sound? Is there a good inexpensive module which can give me that sound, since I can't afford a new keyboard right now. Also, what EP is Billy Joel using on "I love you just the way you are". Is that the same sound or a different EP. You're help will be deeply appreciated. Peace.
Bubbajazz Posted September 8, 2002 Posted September 8, 2002 Rhodes suitcase - the one with the amp (and tremolo) built in. Don't have any info on modules for you, though.
SoundWrangler Posted September 8, 2002 Posted September 8, 2002 Yup. Rhodes suitcase. One of the most commonly simulated sounds, but (like bass gtr, elec gtr & sax), few of the simmulations are even remotely convincing. It's a glorious/cantankerous electro-mechanical job; the characteristic "thump" or "knock" always seems to be missing in "synthesized" versions.
Bubbajazz Posted September 8, 2002 Posted September 8, 2002 I'm curious - has anyone any feedback on the Logic simulator?

Renie Posted September 8, 2002 Posted September 8, 2002 Lounge Lizard apparently gives the Logic EP a run for it's money and it is more open platform. Renie Renie Coffey | riverattic
Bucktunes Posted September 8, 2002 Posted September 8, 2002 Originally posted by CP: Also, what EP is Billy Joel using on "I love you just the way you are".That's also a Rhodes, but it's going through a phase shifter. That's what gives it that "wavy" sound. You can get that sound to some extent on any Rhodes emulation as long as you crank up the phaser effect. Peace all, Steve ><> Steve
SoundWrangler Posted September 8, 2002 Posted September 8, 2002 And the filthier the phaser, the better! Check out some of Joe Zawinul's work with Weather Report in the late 70's!

DougSt.Louis Posted September 9, 2002 Posted September 9, 2002 CP, The particular sound you're looking for can be found in the S80, It's actually called "Sunshine." There's also a Clav in the S80 called "Superstition". They are both remarkable recreations.
alan scobie Posted September 9, 2002 Posted September 9, 2002 Hi Guys, See post below called "The Lounge Lizard" Cheers Alan.
Markyboard Posted September 9, 2002 Posted September 9, 2002 I'm not biased. That EVP88 is the only soft synth to date that I really found exquisite. I couldnt stop playing this thing. I was getting ready to purchase when the emagic/Apple anouncement came out. The D6 clav demo thing emagic has out with Logic 5.2 just doesnt do much for me though.

If you're looking for a very close sound to "Just the way you are", a phased rhodes, check out Int B02 - RT Roadz
b_3guy Posted September 9, 2002 Posted September 9, 2002 Originally posted by Bubbajazz: I'm curious - has anyone any feedback on the Logic simulator?I have Emagic's EVP73. It does only a Rhodes Suitcase sound, no Wurlys, etc. It has all the adjustments that the EVP88 has tines, stereo, etc., but the only effect it has is tremolo. It's so convincing I sold my Wurlitzer this weekend. I think of it Emagic EVP73 & 88 is to the Rhodes like the B4 is to the Hammond and is less than $100. It's a VSTi but I use it with Wrapper 3.0 & Digital Performer 3.0. Steve www.seagullphotodesign.com
