sbrock1san.rr.com Posted September 6, 2002 Posted September 6, 2002 I desire so much gear it's unbelievable. I was looking through a gear catalog last night and I was considering buying something on almost every page.....and it's a 150-page catalog !!! I will end up buying very little, my studio has everything I need and that's a great feeling. I still want the Motif 6, just waiting to see it on sale again. With our economy tanking a bit, I've noticed some unbelievable deals on gear lately. I really do believe there is a correlation.
Raymar Posted September 7, 2002 Posted September 7, 2002 I guess I'm one of the few(if any) synth types that don't need anymore equipment and I don't have that much. However with what I've got I'll be able to go on creating sounds and music for the rest of my life and well into the next. When I look at the stuff I don't have I just use that inspiration to get more out of what I've got, sort of a transmutation. Try it sometime gear lust addicts. You shouldn't chase after the past or pin your hopes on the future.
HolyTerra Posted September 7, 2002 Posted September 7, 2002 I'm with you, Raymar. I've got more than enough to keep me busy trying to figure out how to utilize the gear I've got! No more "investing" until I really use what I have.
Synthguy Posted September 7, 2002 Posted September 7, 2002 I guess I have a baad case of G.A.S. I take all my catalogs and put them on the floor and writhe on them in dire need. This keyboard solo has obviously been tampered with!
Jazzman Posted September 7, 2002 Posted September 7, 2002 I want to get the Finalizer Plus for doing some Mastering work in the studio for now. If I had the money.....Karma keyboard, Triton keyboard,Lexicon PCM 80 and 90 would be next for effects. Adams monitors, and maybe an AT 4060 mic would be nice. Then I would move on to................. My fade-out.... jazzman
JimmieWannaB Posted September 8, 2002 Posted September 8, 2002 I don't need more gear - I need more talent. I'm buying way too many toys without getting any better as a keyboardist. Practicing every spare moment I have doesn't seem to help. Maybe it's time to stop kidding myself and put it all up on eBay.

JimmieWannaB Posted September 9, 2002 Posted September 9, 2002 Sorry to hear that i didnt know a hobby(passion) could turn out to be a burden Only when you rack up over $2,000 in charges with Musicians Friend.
realtrance Posted September 9, 2002 Posted September 9, 2002 JWB, It doesn't happen overnight. Practice some more. I go through periods of dry spells, sounds that sound boring to me, mixtures of sound that seem too conventional (or too out-there to be interesting for more than a few minutes), and these can persist for awhile sometimes. Practice some more. Or, maybe even take a break, stay away from your music-making for a week; it won't kill you. Do that and at some point you'll feel the urge to get back, and that first note you strike may sound more beautiful than anything you've done the past six months. You just never know. If you're trying to be too "sophisticated," with lots of fantabulous chord changes, simplify, try to write a simple melody, a children's song. If you're doing things that sound too simple, start working with some unusual or uncommon chord or bass-line progressions, play in different keys with your right and left hands, etc. It's always mainly just about breaking out of whatever rut you fall into from time to time. If you don't break out of it, circumstances will inevitably conspire to break you out of it, and that's not (ahem) always the best way to initiate change.... rt
RABid Posted September 9, 2002 Posted September 9, 2002 I don't need more gear. I need more time to learn the gear I have. Robert This post edited for speling. My Sweetwater Gear Exchange Page
industriac Posted September 9, 2002 Posted September 9, 2002 I just got hit with another case of GAS. This time I dont long for synths, but for various effects processors for vocals and synths. The Electro Harmonix Holy Grail reverb is on the top of my list, then comes a Zoom 505II and a rackmount Zoom multieffects (mainly cuz their cheap). Luckily this time Im only looking for effects as that wont destroy my wallet as much .
Tedly Nightshade Posted September 9, 2002 Posted September 9, 2002 I need gear that doesn't exist yet. So it's easy to hold off.
