CP Posted September 1, 2002 Posted September 1, 2002 Can anybody beat an L.A. team in basketball these days. First the Lakers, now the Sparks. I tip my hat. I guess the Raiders and Dodgers can't be too far behind. Just kidding

synthetic Posted September 2, 2002 Posted September 2, 2002 Just like the Yankees - they have the deepest pockets, so they buy the trophy every year.

The Lakers won't make it past the second round this year. They're old news. The Black Knight always triumphs!
CP Posted September 4, 2002 Author Posted September 4, 2002 Dan, I rarely disagree with you, but the Lakers will win as long as they have the two best players in the game, and Tex Winters running that triangle. Refs or no refs, only two Kings came to play in the clutch during the playoffs - Webber and King. I'll give Jackson a pass, he was hurt. However, if you had to pick between Shaq and Kobe, or Webber and Bibby, I think Shaq & Co. win everytime. Just my thought. Go Knicks!!!!! (yeah right) By the way, if the refs called the fouls right, Shaq would foul out every team in the league. He gets hacked everytime he sets up in the post. No one player in the league takes as much abuse as he does. There is no way Vlade or Webber could play Shaq man-up. Impossible. As far as money goes, the NBA has a hard cap. Baseball doesn't. So the Lakers can't be like the Yankees. Go METS!!!!! (doesn't seem like every team I root for stinks).

First off, the reason he gets hacked is because he's so physical. It's not that shaq just recieves punishment. As dominant as he is, if fouls were called correctly, he'd foul out long before hack-a-shaq would be instituted. That being said, Floppy Vlade is only rivalved in phantom fouls by the Mailman. Those two go flying whenever a guy gets near them.

When Shaq went to the Lakers he said it was because he was a Lakers fan as a kid. He had a white friend who would pretend to be Larry Bird and Shaq would pretend he was Magic when they played 1 on 1. Blame Magic, I do! I'm just tired of the same team winning the championship for the past decade. I had to actually look this up. The Lakers repeated in 87-88, then the Bulls, then the Rockets, then the Bulls again, *deep breath* and now the Lakers again. Before the Lakers did it in the 80s nobody repeated in 20 years!

Shaq moves and makes the same incidental contact that every other player does. He's just bigger, and can't be shoved around as easily as other players. He's not nearly as aggressive as Charles Barkley was, or Karl Malone. If Shaq dished out the same kind of "karate-chop" hacks that he receives about a hundred times a game, guys would be going out with injuries left and right. Unfortunately for the rest of the league, the Lakers have the two best players in the league and will Four-peat, Five-peat, and Six-peat. Get used to it.

It is impossible to keep Shaq out the post without fouling him. He's too big. I won't even talk about everytime he gets the ball. Shaq is fouled everytime he tries to get position without the ball. As far as the Lakers repeating. As long as Shaq is 75% healthy and Kobe keeps improving, I don't see the Lakers losing in the 2-3 years.
Dan South Posted September 5, 2002 Posted September 5, 2002 Barkley in his prime was the most physical player that i can remember. But if Charles picked up a guy and tossed him out of bound, the refs would call it. Shaq must have some sort of golden lifetime Get Out of Jail Free card or something. The number of fouls a player gets called for is indirectly proportional to his importance to the advertising business. Shaq, Jordan = very few fouls Divac and anybody else covering Shaq = tons of fouls The Black Knight always triumphs!
