Superbobus Posted August 23, 2002 Posted August 23, 2002 The guy in my local music store said the VK8 should be in this week, but it's not (what else is new...). I really like that CX3, played on it and also downloaded some mp3's, which are great. But the CX3 is expensive and doesn't have a Leslie output (BIG mistake!). I don't have a real Leslie yet but wouldn't it be nice to have one and connect it to the clonewheel? I want to check out that VK8 (it's always great to compare some boards before you spend a big amount of dough) but I only can find some sorry-ass video from Roland. Pictures are great but you only hear one sound which is... let's say... boring! There must be some samples out there, anyone? http://www.bobwijnen.nl Hipness is not a state of mind, it's a fact of life.
Dan O Posted August 25, 2002 Posted August 25, 2002 The last time I looked , the price of the CX3 was dropped . When I was working at GC not very long ago .....I could have sold one for about $1549.99 . The VK8 is nice and lesse expensive that the VK7 , but VK7 owners that tried the VK8 did not like the fact that they eliminated the LCD diplay . I liked the keys and leslie simulation on the VK8 . However , if you tried going from the organ setting to a solo instrument , the organ sound would bleed over into the solo voice ( not good IMHO). That's it for now ! dano www.esnips.com/web/SongsfromDanO
Stephen Fortner Posted August 25, 2002 Posted August 25, 2002 Yup... to get a non-organ voice, you have to slam all your drawbars in and then turn up a separate volume knob. And the editing is so arcane its humorous... to edit parameters, you have to deal with buttons and patterns of LED's that are normally used for other things, and there's no silkscreening for the edit functions. It's like an analog synthesizer that had an unmarked "Page 2" for the controls. It sounds pretty cool. IMHO they still haven't quite nailed the Chorus. I think the (new) Korg CX-3 has the edge for right now. Did Korg ever lose the piano-like lip on the keys? I could never stand to use C3 chorus with fast Leslie. Busch.
Superbobus Posted August 26, 2002 Author Posted August 26, 2002 Thanx guys. Honestly I really don't care about the other sounds in the VK8 and the fact at editing is a PITA. It's the sound that counts for me and I think it's too bad that there's nothing to find on the net when it comes to VK8 demos. CX3 has piano like lipped keys, as far as I could see from the pictures. $1549,99 for a CX3??? WHERE? http://www.bobwijnen.nl Hipness is not a state of mind, it's a fact of life.

Pat Azzarello Posted August 26, 2002 Posted August 26, 2002 For what it's worth... I got a chance to play one about a month ago, and everything sounded pretty good in the music store except the Leslie effect, but it felt inspiring... Pat http://www.patazzarello.com

ksoper Posted August 29, 2002 Posted August 29, 2002 I got a chance to play the VK8 at Music Center in Kenosha, WI a few weeks ago. I wasn't terribly impressed with it compared to my VK7. If I had to replace my organ today, I'd have to go with the CX3. All you need is the Trek or leslie pre-amp pedal to run into the Leslie of your choice. No big deal. The action on the Korg is better and I think the organ voices are more authentic. You get a nice smear when you do a full-hand gliss. Sorry Roland. K.
Superbobus Posted August 29, 2002 Author Posted August 29, 2002 Thanx ksoper, so the Leslie thing is no problem with the CX3, cool! The only problem is I still have to hear it because some like the Korg better and some like the Roland totally over the Korg. The Korg I know and it's great but I have to hear that VK8 (don't wanna have the feeling I missed a chance) so I hope it's coming in soon. http://www.bobwijnen.nl Hipness is not a state of mind, it's a fact of life.
