D. Gauss Posted August 19, 2002 Posted August 19, 2002 ok, i just bought a conn organ artist (which i could care less about) and a leslie 51c cabinet for 100 bucks at a junk store. anybody know anything about the leslie 51c? i searched alittle bit and seemed to get the impression that it can be made to be similar to a 122? and most importantly, is there a cheap/easy way to rig it up so i can use it without the organ? i.e. put guitars or vocals through it. 'cause that's why i bought the damn thing. thanks in advance. -d. gauss http://www.betteroffdead.com
Slowly Posted August 19, 2002 Posted August 19, 2002 Here`s the schematic for the 51C. Hope this helps. Kcbass "Let It Be!"
B3Nut Posted August 19, 2002 Posted August 19, 2002 Wow, Conn and a 51C for 100 bucks....that's a STEAL! 51C's are Great Leslies. Rotary channel is similar to the 147 amp, unbalanced input. They are one-speed Leslies, so if you want the slow Chorale speed you'll need to invest in a Hampton motor control unit from www.bborgan.com. They work great, just clean and oil the motors before installing. Wish I could run into a deal like that... Enjoy the new toy! TP --- Todd A. D. Gauss Posted August 19, 2002 Author Posted August 19, 2002 thanks for the info so far. anybody know how to hook a guitar up to the thing? thanks in advance. -d. gauss http://www.betteroffdead.com
Tedly Nightshade Posted August 19, 2002 Posted August 19, 2002 Wow, that Hamptone stuff looks great, especially the motor control and the silent switching. Does the motor control ramp up and down like a two motor system? I have a custom mod that does that, including ramping up and down, with just the fast motor. It's a complete bliss, and the speed gets switched very very often now that there is no pop from the relay. Highly recommended! A WOP BOP A LU BOP, A LOP BAM BOOM! B3Nut Posted August 19, 2002 Posted August 19, 2002 Yup, the Hamptone works very well, spins up and down like a 2-motor Leslie. A good friend of mine in Nashville has one in a beautifully-restored 22H, and it is simply lovely. The tone of his '59 C-3 through that 22H about makes me cry... TP --- Todd A. -_dup1 Posted August 19, 2002 Posted August 19, 2002 d gauss -- Having just made the jump into Hammonds and Leslies recently (I picked up an old Hammond Aurora with a built in 2-speed Leslie speaker), I've found some good links to use as a jumping off point for Leslies... Hammond/Leslie FAQ Hammond web ring Hamtech Organ mailing list - This is a great mailing list regarding Hammonds/Leslies, with a focus on the tech end of things... Unfortunately, their web site appears to be down right now. If you sign up for their mailing list, you'll have access to search the archives, which you may find very helpful. I too am wondering how to hook up my guitar to my Leslie, but first I need to fix some circuit boards to stop an annoying scratchy sound I get after the organ warms up... Good luck!
D. Gauss Posted August 19, 2002 Author Posted August 19, 2002 thanks posterchild. i'm still searching. joined the list though. no luck yet. -d. gauss
