I wish Nord would build this...

I am a satisfied Nord Lead user. I am also intrigued by their Nord Electro that is exclusively geared towards Hammond, clav and EP sounds. It would be nice if they would consider making a "Super Nord" that had both the Electro and Nord Lead 3 functions in the same instrument. Half of the panel could control the Electro sounds and the other half could have the virtual analog synth controls.

Most of us making music with traditional sounds like Hammond and EPs also get mileage out of analog synth sounds. Right now, I am carrying a Roland RD600 for piano/EP/clav, Korg CX3 for organ and Nord Lead for analog sounds. I would love to have all of this available in one instrument, along with the interface to control the parameters.

I'm sure it would be pricey, but think there would be a market for a "Nord Everything" incorporating an amalgam of their products over the past 7 years. What do you all think?

Regards,

Eric

That would be one sweet board, no question about it.

However, I'm not sure if I could give up the weighted keys. Playing pianos on synth-style keys just doesn't cut it for me, and playing organs on piano keys is worse. So I'm always going to need at least two boards.

I've always wanted a double keyboard, the lower weighted and the upper unweighted.

What do we want? Procrastination!

When do we want it? Later!

Yep - me, too. I think we talked about this here once before, didn't we?

Whoever does it should do two models - A 76 over an 88, and a 61 over a 76.

Good Lord, why? What if the manufacturer puts out a weighted keyboard you love and an unweighted one you hate? Why would you want to be forced to buy both? Just buy a two tiered stand and put a mush board on top and a weighted board on the bottom. That's what I do.

Or is MIDI just too slow for you guys?

My gripe is that you can never get the two boards close enough for equal confort between the two. If you bring the top one close enough, you can't acess the panel. So yeah, I'd probably be interesting in a dual-manual board. But man, the weight. My pc88mx is heavy enough.

What would be interesting would be a weighted controller with a detachable panel, similar to the those akai samplers (can't remember the model). This way, you could remove the panel and put it on the side somewhere, and then rest the top keyboard immediately on top of it.

Now this would be cool.

Korg Kronos X73 / ARP Odyssey / Motif ES Rack / Roland D-05 / JP-08 / SE-05 / Jupiter Xm / Novation Mininova / NL2X / Waldorf Pulse II

Great idea!!! I had it too but didn`t post since I`m in Scotland...

it would be great, a single piece with the nord lead 3 and electro functions, with a 76 semi keyboard and a 61 sinth one...

Retail price at 3500 bucks? If it were not too heavy (I know it would be...) I would buy it!

Ok, that makes sense. On the same note, I wish someone would tell the manufacturers not to bevel the bottom, leading edge of their keyboards. To overcome the problem you mentioned (the keyboards being too far apart), I tilt the upper tier down towards me as much as possible, but since my mush board has a beveled front edge, I'm constantly afraid that I'll get it in my lap.

[p.s. I just received Kurz #4. It seems work. What do you know?]

Sure would.

I would like to see weighted keyboards designed to accept a stand on top that fastened directly to the board. The mounting points would have to be standard but the stand itself could be an optional extra.

The ideal stand would be as low as possible so you could gang the boards together.

Around the topic of keyboard stands that allow one to position the keyboards very close together, let me put in another plug for Invisible brand stands. They are out of production, but available readily on the used market.

Most of the time I gig with a digital piano and organ clone rig, with a Nord Lead added when I feel like lugging another keyboard. I am able to position all 3 of these guys right on top of one another with the keyboards in very close proximity like this:

Eric\'s old rig on Invisible stand

This works well for me and I would probably rather have each keyboard to itself rather than integrated, just in case one fails. It's nice to have a backup keyboard or two sitting there for you in case you have a glitch or a bad cable. This kind of thing has happened to me before and I can limp through a gig on all organ or piano if needed.

Nice arrangement. Do you find any problems with the top board being that far back?

Also, it looks like you have your cables under control. I seem to have cables growing like Blackberry all the time.

Is there a model number on the stand to look out for?

Actually, it looks like an XK2....

Dave,

That's a Hammond XK2. The triple decker photo was taken when I was still using the XK2. I upgraded to a new CX3 early 2002. Until recently, I was too chicken to stack my Nord on top for fear of harming it. Here's a picture of the new rig with the Nord sitting at an "L":

Eric\'s New Rig - "L" configuration

Now that the CX3 has been on the road for awhile, I am stacking the triple decker when I bring my Nord along with me. Most of the time I just use the piano and organ and the Nord is just "icing" when I have the energy to carry it. I am trying to integrate my JV1010 into my rig to cover most any "synth" type of sound I would make on the Nord...this way I can get most any conceivable sound with only a 2-keyboard rig (I don't really like messing with 3 keyboards too often). I miss the user interface of the Nord, but sometimes it sits up there only to be played on a half dozen songs a night.

Byrdman,

Yes, I have some issues with the top board being a bit too far away. I am always leaning against the RD to reach the Nord. But I have gotten used to it and it beats the heck out of some of the acrobatics I have done in the past and see a lot of players doing to this day when wrangling multi-keyboard live rigs.

As for the cable spaghetti, I am pretty anal about keeping all my cables as simple as possible. I keep the power cables tied together and the patch cables tied together for ease of setup. I use velcro straps to attach stuff to the stand and also parts of the keyboards themseleves so there are no visible dangling cords. I can't stand a sloppy-looking setup.

As for the model number on the stand, just search for Invisible Stands on eBay or other online used gear shops like MusicGoRound and you should run into some in short order. I have become a bit of a collector (I have 4 of them). I have 2 set up all the time at home for rehearsal/mini studio and 2 that I rotate on the road. I also have parts and stuff in case something goes wrong. My main stand to this day is the very first one I bought back in 1987 with all its original parts. I have worn out about 3 of the nylon carrying bags but the stand will not die!!!

Regards,

Eric
