enner Posted August 15, 2002 Posted August 15, 2002 I have just installed a sound blaster audigy sound card. I have hooked it up to a midi synth but I find the keyboard program that came with the sound card very basic. It doesn't seem to let me save what I record and only has around 127 sounds. I am looking for an easy to use software program that will let me record what I play. I also want the program to be able to reord sounds and then play them on the keyboard E.G. I want to say record glass breaking and then when I play the keyboard here the sound of breaking glass as notes. Can anybody also recoomend some good web sites for tutorials on using my midi synth and software.

Magpel Posted August 15, 2002 Posted August 15, 2002 You need Vienna, the soundblaster sampler program, to record your own samples. And then you need a nice sequencer to record your MIDI tracks.See Ethanwiner.com for some good tutorials on Vienna and Creatice sound cards in general. Check out the Sweet Clementines CD at bandcamp
Cezar20 Posted August 16, 2002 Posted August 16, 2002 Cubasis which is a MIDI/Audio Software. For the price (Here in Australia its $300 so I guess around $100US), it offers quite a fair bit. From memory I believe 64 midi tracks and 48 channels of audio, Free VST Instruments which are software synths, bass, a somewhat programmable synth, a drum machine, and a very shonky sounding sound module (from what ive heard). Steinberg users are numerous and the forums on the website are quite useful. Also, gives you a pathway to pursue if you ever wish to upgrade to higher grade software. Be warned with your soundcard you will experience very high latency. That is, if you want to use the soft synths, say you play your midi keyboard to trigger a drum sound, approximately 3 months 2 weeks and 3 days later, you will hear the sound play back. If your willing to spend a little (the enjoyment and hours of endless pleasure will no doubt be worhth it), see if Steinberg still do a project pack. They use to sell a fairly decent sound card bundled with the Cubasis software for circa $700 Australian. Depending on tax, exchange rate etc I dont know what that is in $US. Exchange rate is around $1US to $52Australian though. Man we really suck. I remember early 90s, ehehe I was like 11 and interested in economics the rates were comparable, then in 1998 I was in the 12th grade and it dropped to like 68c Australian = $1US and the country began to panic. Now its just downright absurd. I can not even contemplate ordering things from the US as it is just impossible. Yes, okay from Sequencing on a Soundblaster card to the current state of the Australian economy. Is it now obvious that we are in a different timezone? As I type it is 3AM Saturday 17 August so its probably around August 1954 in the states
