xqtion Posted August 5, 2002 Posted August 5, 2002 which one of the virtual analog synths out there is capable of making the best bass sounds ? nordlead3, virus c, q or micro q, or any other. i'm not talking about the presets. anybody w/experience please ?
Pim Posted August 5, 2002 Posted August 5, 2002 Nordlead 3. Check Andromeda as well; she's the real killer! My Music I always wondered what happened after the fade out?
synthetic Posted August 6, 2002 Posted August 6, 2002 Was the original Novation BassStation analog? I remember that had some cool bass tones, and I seem to think it was analog at first until they changed it to VA. I know Drumstation was VA or Sampling.
aeon Posted August 6, 2002 Posted August 6, 2002 xqtion queried: which one of the virtual analog synths out there is capable of making the best bass sounds ?...i'm not talking about the presets. The Clavia Nord Modular and the Korg OASYS PCI . If the idea of a modular synth or PCI card bothers you, and you want to go with a straight-up VA, then I echo what Pim said...the Clavia Nord Lead 3 . Go tell someone you love that you love them.
Synthguy Posted August 6, 2002 Posted August 6, 2002 Did you get your Evolver yet Aeon? What about that? I bet with real analog oscillators mixed with digital ones in a real analog filter would just about nail boards on a floor! I'd also mention with those excellent units that Novation VA thing, like the K Station, complete with knobs, buttons and sliders, and a 2 octave keyboard. I do think the Nord Modular would have to be the one to beat, since you can have as many oscillators, filters and modifiers as the little beast can generate! This keyboard solo has obviously been tampered with!
aeon Posted August 6, 2002 Posted August 6, 2002 synthguy asked: Did you get your Evolver yet Aeon?Nope...they are not shipping until October. Go tell someone you love that you love them.
xqtion Posted August 6, 2002 Author Posted August 6, 2002 is the mord modural capable of producing all of nordlead 3 sounds ? also is the sound character similar between the nordlead3 n the modular ? thanks
Synthguy Posted August 6, 2002 Posted August 6, 2002 Some people swear that the Nord Lead 3 is the ultimate VA with the best filters, and think the Modular lacks something, others think the Modular is just fine. I'm falling into that picky trap myself, after getting a few units and discovering that there really are differences in these instruments that are more than panel layout deep. However I think the only way you'd know for sure is to play with them. I know for a fact that the NL3 is a sweet synth, but even if the Modular lacked a little something, I'm sure I wouldn't notice it as I crafted clever patches. I really want one badly. Of course I want half the synths ever made too, so what do I know? Someone mentioned they had a Modular, tell us whether you adore it or not. This keyboard solo has obviously been tampered with!
aeon Posted August 6, 2002 Posted August 6, 2002 xqtion asked: is the mord modural capable of producing all of nordlead 3 sounds ?Not currently with OS 3.03, but when OS 4 ships later this year, it will include all of the NL3-exclusive features. Of course, the Nord Modular can make all manner of sounds that the NL3 cannot touch...including some bass to die for. xqtion asked: also is the sound character similar between the nordlead3 n the modular ?It can be, depending on the patch. synthguy said: Someone mentioned they had a Modular, tell us whether you adore it or not.I adore it and love it to death...it would be my desert-island synth. Consider this: if you need a performance synth and you are perhaps more concerned with writing and speed of production, then the NL3 might be a better choice. On the other hand, if your need is synthesis, deep and powerful, and the ability to create signature sounds like no one else, the Nord Mod might be more to your liking. But hey, even if you dont like to program, there are over 20,000 NM patches to download and check out, LOL. Go tell someone you love that you love them.
industriac Posted August 6, 2002 Posted August 6, 2002 best bass sounds? Ever try a Yammy TX81z? Gorgeous bass sounds...especially if you layer the same bass sound and detune. Oh, and the synth is quite cheap too with prices ranging from $80-$150.
Synthguy Posted August 7, 2002 Posted August 7, 2002 If your need is synthesis, deep and powerful, and the ability to create signature sounds like no one else... Yes! Yes!! YES!!! I must have one I tell you! And an Ion! And... so forth!! And I had a TX81Z at one time, definitely not a dinky synth. I intend to get one again some day. That's one of the "so forth" units. This keyboard solo has obviously been tampered with!
DJDM Posted August 7, 2002 Posted August 7, 2002 I'm still kinda fond of the way my old Juno 106 sounds. Don't use it much anymore but every once in a while I love to fire it up and plug away. My MKS-80 is a close second for fat ass bass. In hardware world anyway. Have you guys heard what you can get out of the Malstrom's bass settings yet? I made an example here that uses one of the presets that I designed for Reason 2.0 called, perhaps a little obviously "DJDM Bass". The track is called "A Bloody Crush" and you can check it out here! - DJDM DJDM.com
