seanbaker Posted August 3, 2002 Posted August 3, 2002 Does Korg have anything similar to this, or a means of using a breath-type controller on sounds? When considering purchasing a Triton, my only concern has been that I need some good horns/reed sounds and have always thought Yamaha had better ones. I don't think I want a MOTIF though. Can someone who is experiences with both Yamaha and Korg soudns tell me if I've just missed something in Korg's sounds and that perhaps there are good horn/reed solo instruments? Do any of the Korg expansion boards have awesome solo brass/reeds?
bg Posted August 3, 2002 Posted August 3, 2002 You might consider the Korg Oasys-PCI. It's discontinued, so you'd have to find one used. Here's a link to acoustic wind mp3 demos from the Oasys website.
synthetic Posted August 3, 2002 Posted August 3, 2002 Yamaha had a few synths that specialized in this. The VL1 was their flagship keyboard, but they also had a 1/2 rack VL70m that might be good for you. They both do great wind and reed solo instruments and have breath controller inputs. I beleive that the sax lead on "Fourth of July", on the Keyboard Corner MP3 site, was played on a VL1.
mildbill Posted August 8, 2002 Posted August 8, 2002 i've had a korg Z1 (which had VL type models), and an EX5R (which has VL). the Z1 type is available now as the MOSS board for some of their products. i think the yamaha VL is more realistic and would second the idea of the VL70M. the korg was easier to use, but the VL was capable of producing more of the results i wanted. as always, you'd be best off trying to give a listen to both and seeing which you prefer.
Magpel Posted August 8, 2002 Posted August 8, 2002 Yeah, I love my Z1, but it's acoustic models are not its strength, though some are striking and usable. Someone makes a bank of Z1 sounds for use with a breath controller. I forget the name but I think Soapbox knows it. Check out the Sweet Clementines CD at bandcamp
Synthguy Posted August 8, 2002 Posted August 8, 2002 I have big access - thank God - to a Triton and MOSS board. It's an amazing little six voice unit, but the Yamaha VL board and instruments are the stuff. If you insist on not getting a Motif, what about a CS6R? It takes those PLG boards, and one is the VL. This keyboard solo has obviously been tampered with!
