Problems with PC2X action?

Hey all -

I'm a proud owner of a PC88 (since '95), and want to get a PC2X. My question is about the action(Fatar keybed). Is it any more durable than the PC88 version??? Because I have gone through four - count 'em four - keybeds on the PC88.

I'm not a particularly hard 'pounder', but I work in theatre full-time and probably put about 36 - 40 solid hours of performance on the board per week (and thats on the low end). I also play in rock and jazz situations. In terms of sound and functionality, based on my experience with the PC88 and what I've heard of the new samples on the PC2X - I'm sure I want to stick with what works. BUT - I'm concerned about the keybed. Any input is appreciated.

PS - I know Fatar 'fixed' the design flaw in the original action - but I have seen/heard rumors of other issues popping up.

The PC2 performance and reliability is excellent.

We have been "upgrading" many touring performers from the PC88 to the PC2X.

Some off the top of my head are:

Elton John, Billy Joel (placed in a Grand Shell), John Sullivan (Ozzie Ozborne), Alberto Salas (Santana), John Novello. I was just approached by Billy Powell (Lynard Skynard) about replacing his old MIDI Steinway.

All have had past experience with the PC88.(mixed opinions)

All like the new action and love the Orchestra ROM option.

If you have more concerns, you can email me

Thanks, man. Two grand is a lot of money to part with - even for the excellence of Kurzweil - so its nice to have some reassurance.

Anyone else with thoughts???

Elp,

Just be sure to try out the Kurz on YOUR stand! A friend of mine has to use a piece of plywood under the unit because her stand 'flexes' the unit which results in key clunk.

That's her only complaint with her PC2X.

Thanks Rick. I wondered about that. I'm using a two-tier QuickLock double-braced 'X' style stand. I wonder if that's the problem.

Maybe time to dust off the good old invisible stand???

I've had broken keys and such with K1000s, PC88s and PC2's. But no problems at all (knock, knock) with the Kurzweil SP series. Kurzweil has been very responsive to my questions and complaints. I will say that the Roland RD700 or FP3 feels like a heavy-duty action that could stand up to many nights of heavy use. On the other hand, it has the stiffest action ("slushy" might be a better term) of all these keyboards--exaggerated compared to the action of most Steinway's, in fact.
