edrummer Posted August 2, 2002 Posted August 2, 2002 I am not a keyboard player so I thought I would come to the experts here in the keyboard forum. We have a six piece band that is doing a lot of R&B songs. We have a keyboard player(my brother)but he cant play piano or organ and do the horns or strings at the same time. I am looking for ideas on getting these parts to play. I have thought about using a midi file of the song and dropping all parts except the ones we need. My fear is that this can lead to disaster if playing live and something goes wrong in the chain. The guitar player thinks we can just sequence the part and while he is playing piano he could just hit a key on the other keyboard and have the horn or string part play but I am thinking there will be no way for this to be in time with us. Hopefully one of you can shed some light on how we can accomplish this. Mark
koolkid Posted August 2, 2002 Posted August 2, 2002 im the one and only keyboard player in a six piece band also and every song we do has piano, organ, strings and horns in it theres only two ways to do things live, play the part or pre recorded (hittin the note for the sample i count as pre-recorded: ) to be honest with you,i like to just make a dual sound of my piano and organ on the lower half of my keyboard and split it and then put the horns on the upper part of the keyboard an octave lower if you have a bass player , the keyboardist can get away with not doing bass lines and this frees him up to do piano/organ with the left hand and horns /strings with the right
edrummer Posted August 2, 2002 Author Posted August 2, 2002 Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately my brother is pretty much a one handed keyboard player he never learned to use his left hand very well so having him play two parts at the same time isnt going to work. What we would we need to do to get the horn parts to play by just hitting a key and what would make them be in time? Sorry I dont know the correct terminology for this I am guessing its some kind of sample. Mark
