icarusi Posted July 28, 2002 Posted July 28, 2002 I was at a demo of Roland guitar gear today and was talking to the demo guy (who uses a Roland 16 input 2U rack mixer) about the the RC-20 Loop Station, which is one of Roland's newer double pedal format units. It has 5.5 minutes of mono looping time which can be divided over 11 memory locations. It's intended for guitarists and has been generally kept simple, but if it had some form of sync I/O it would be a much more useful item. We were discussing using the tempo LED (the unit also outputs an audio drum 'click') to derive a pulse which could convert to midi clock, and I recalled a past unit (a JL Cooper?) which could derive midi sync from audio. I did a quick Google search and found a couple of units which appear to do the same. One is the Roland DJ1000 which has an audio>BPM>midi-clock facility, but has all the DJ fader stuff which would likely be redundant for this purpose. The other was a Red (www.redsound.com) MicroSync which is just a small standalone unit to do audio>BPM>midi-clock, for DJs to add to their existing kit. Has anyone here used either of these, or any other audio-to-midisync units live.
