It's the only sport I follow.

In the U.S. pro cycling doesn't have the hype or the giant marketing arm cramming the event down your throat like other sporting events.

Well I am a Euro ex-pat so I probably don't count.

Allez Post des Etat Unite!

Or something like that.

it was big when Lance won his 1st and second tours, but it's gotten to the point where the only time I hear about it is from www.espn.com. When he wins the 4th, they'll do a story about him, and prob get the sportsman of the year, but other than that, it's rare to see him on tv except for a 2sec clip

Speaking of ESPN, they mentioned yesterday how many marathons over the period this is equivilant to (and I forget the number) along with other comparisons for doing this race. Considering that along with how they have to steer and keep themselves alive in the speeding pack, I figure they're the best athletes in the world.

Now, I wish my favorite baseball players could keep themselves off the DL for a month after having to swing a bat four times a day

I'd LOVE to watch the Tour de France, but it has about as much chance of being aired on American TV as The Complete Works of Verdi.

The Black Knight always triumphs!

Boogerd won the queen's étappe today! And he's from the town I live in. GO BOOGERD!

The only sad thing is that I missed it today because I was with my sister today, aaah, what the heck. I have always followed the tour when I could and I love it... as soon as the mountains come in.

OLN carries it if you have it on your local cable company. Just watched the 16th stage. These guys are certainly as good as any athletes in the world, and I say when Lance wins this a 4th year in a row, he'd be the best athlete I've ever seen.

No he won't. Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Miguel Indurain won five times. Maybe not in a row but five times man, that's impressive. Also, Armstrong is preparing almost tour-only, so skipping lots of other tours (Spain, Italy, Switzerland, you name it). I just don't like the guy too much, sorry about that (the only one with his wifte and kids at the tour, so overdone), but he is a great sports man.

Miguel Indurain only won 5 times in a row. But if I remember well, Eddy Mercks has a tremendous list of won races, a lot more than the other top Tour de France winners.

Concerning the Tour de France only, the best is Bernard Hinault: 5 times winner, 2 times runner-up.

Like someone mentioned above, Outdoor Life Network (who, god bless 'em, are totally committed to providing coverage of american and european cycling throughout the year) is airing daily coverage of the TDF ... 3x a day, I believe. Course, you can also follow Le Tour here: www.cyclingnews.com

It was a heroic race. Boogerd drived with a lot of Haagse bluf (= bluff of The Hague) over the mountains - on his own! You will be sorry for the rest of your life

I am a fan of Lance... Sorry Bobus. But indeed he's not the greatest racer there has ever been.

Hinault could do everything: climbing, sprinting, down hill/mountain.

Merckx had brains. Sometimes he could win a race by not being the best climber, but by being the best downwards.

I saw the late night report on Belgian TV but it's not the same as following it live. Man, what an unbelievable nerve Boogerd has shown with his 150 km (!) solo. Okay, some miles were together with sprinters but then he jumped away from them... incredible race!

Lance is okay. I just don't like the overdone circus and hype around him. It's too American for me, I guess. ;)

I happen to be on of the many Lance Armstrong fans. I think he is an amazing athlete and has overcome amazing obstacles to achieve the success he has.

I would like to see someone step up and really push him in the Tour. I get the feeling that he really isn't trying that hard. It seems obvious to me that he has another gear waiting to throw down when needed.

Peace,

You certainly are more aware of the sport than I am, but I'll hold by my opinion that Lance may be the best athlete that I've ever seen.

You're minimizing the accomplishments of a guy who survived cancer??? Give me a break. He's crushed the competition the last 3 times plus this year. Gee, sorry that he's an American too.

I'm not dissing Lance on his past. Of course I can have nothing but respect for somebody who had a disease like that! Give me a break...

It's just, as I said in earlier posts, the media circus that's annoying me. Also LeMond brought his family down there and it doesn't have anything to do with cycling to show off with your son.

Or maybe LeMond was just proud, could be, but I see the same thing with Lance.

At the end it just comes down to one thing: may the best man win!

I think the reason Lance looks like he is not working so hard is because of his team's ( US Postal) efforts in his behalf. US Postal has its complete team still intact and, most if not all, of the racers in the top 100 time wise. It helps when your team is strong.

PARIS (AP) - Lance Armstrong won his fourth straight Tour de France on Sunday, claiming one of his biggest victories in the grueling three-week event.

The Texan crossed the finish line on the Champs-Elysees in the bright yellow leader's jersey he has worn since taking control of the race 10 days ago.

The 30-year-old cancer survivor moved within one of the Tour record of five titles.

Wow!!! This guy is The Lakers of cycling!!! :D:eek::P:thu:
