DanS Posted July 24, 2002 Posted July 24, 2002 Hi all, I just scored an XV-5050, and have been having some trouble getting it to behave within Cubase VST32. I can't seem to get my head around their Performance vs Patch structure with regards to sequencing. Why do I have to stick all the multi-timbral parts (16) I need for a song into a Performance in the first place anyway? Meaning, why not let me just select bank numbers and then patch numbers like I do with my Proteus 2000? Anyone care to take a stab? Much appreciated. Dan What we record in life, echoes in eternity. Dave Bryce Posted July 24, 2002 Posted July 24, 2002 Yeah, this can be a bit confusing - especially if you're used to working with a Proteus, which is basically always in multitimbral mode. However, most other manufacturers have at least one (and sometimes two) modes in which you can use multiple programs. The main reason for this is so that in addition to storing what programs you will use you can also store mix parameters such as volume, pan and effects settings for each program, and MIDI parameters such as key ranges, which channels respond to which controllers, etc. It can be a bit confusing to set up, but once you get the hang of it you will probably appreciate how much more convenient it is to do it that way. Another route you might want to try is to set up a default performance template, and then just send it program and bank changes like you're used to doing. That may work for you... dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <== Professional Affiliations: Royer Labs • Music Player Network

DanS Posted July 24, 2002 Author Posted July 24, 2002 One more thing Dave, could I theoretically call up the same Performance for each tune, and just change the patches via program change messages with Cubase? Or is this exactlty what you mean by using a blank template? Doh!!! What we record in life, echoes in eternity. RABid Posted July 24, 2002 Posted July 24, 2002 Also realize that this is how you deal with limited effects channels. In performance mode you determine which individual channels get to use specialized effects such as leslie simulation, and which give up effects for the betterment of the community.
