OT: Vacations

Yes I know I promised to stop this OT thing - I had all the intention to start a thread to ask for some advice about that superfast computer I intended to buy... BUT the summer is going very badly, many gigs were cancelled, other postponed, and the macho PC is gonna wait for another while.

For the same reason, I was there thinking, no vacations this year! Maybe just a few quick trips to the beach, and after all this will give me time to compose and practice...

Well, no way! My remaining neurons declared a strike and threatened suicide if I refused to take them to vacation, RIGHT NOW. And who am I to say no... So I collected the few dimes left, did a little work on the old car, and reserved a week on the mountains, leaving tomorrow (Wednesday). A rather isolated place - no synths, no pianos, no internet, no deadlines. Just the mountain, my beautiful girlfriend, and me...

So what the hell is the point of this thread, you ask. Mmm, just to say "see you later" to you Cornerers. Even if I don't post a lot, I still try to follw this forum regularly, and I always enjoy it. This time I'm going to have a one-week pause... and thinking about it, this thread could be a kind of marker, to find out what will be posted after I leave! (Is that good English?!)

So see you next week - and take your vacations! :D

On-topic thread coming REAL soon now... :P

My week long vacation is ending today, it was much needed, made all the difference. Won't see another one until October.

I've been without my entire studio for 6 weeks, so don't feel deprived. What I can say of that can be summed up in two words:

IT SUCKS.

And I'll be without my keyboards and the rest of my studio for another 4 weeks. Wouldn't you know it, I'm coming up with all sorts of ideas now that I don't have access to a keyboard.

Ah, the joys of relocating.

Carlo, have a nice holiday!

I myself are going on vacation next Saturday, four days London (Mingus bigband in Ronnie Scotts!) and nine days Iceland... Don't worry, it's not as cold as it sounds! :)

I'm gonna start photographing on this holiday. Never did it too much and just baught my first camera. I guess Iceland should give me lots of inspiration.

Have a nice holidy all you cats out there!

I'm on a kind of pre-vacation at the moment. Had to race down south of the border due to a dental emergency- if I said how amazingly little it cost and how excellent the dentist was, everyone from the USA would howl in rage! Lessee, been playing soccer with my friend's 3-year-old Ališa, drinking beer, doing Grandma's garden... :D Real vacation starts in about two weeks, heading down to Dalmatia.

Depends... this summer I have a 6-week vacation from my ordinary gig (studio mgr + mastering engineer), first week was like a real vacation and the last 5 weeks I work full time as a staff engineer at a big radio station - I need extra money to pay my tax debt without resorting to starvation :( .

This summer job is really good & intresting, but I'd rather spend vacation somewhere else. It almost feels as when I was a student (some 25 years ago) and worked all summer.

Only because you can toast your butt on the lava flow!

Are you playing at Ronnie's or just going to listen?

:D:D:D:D:D

I could also launch myself 35 metres high on one of the geysirs! :P

Temperature in Iceland should be 13 degrees Celsius, that's like March in Holland but the wind can be chilly.

I'm only gonna listen at Ronnie's but maybe I should pack some demos... ;)

I'm back!

Thanks all for your input, I didn't expect it at all!

I'll spare you the details of my trip, it was simply WONDERFUL and much, much needed. I had forgotten what is like to forget everything and immerse oneself into nature for a while. I took important decisions for my future life!

I'll try to resume posting in the next few days - today I got a recording day, and tomorrow I'm going to perform at an outdoor festival here in Rome. Hope my chops had not suffered too much... :D

It's nice to "meet" you again!

Carlo - glad to hear that you had an enlightening break AND some cool gigs to come back to. It's often easier to be creative when you get out of your normal environment and can look at things in a new light.

I'm heading out next week for over a month on a tour with a little vacation thrown in. I guess one way to find vacation time is to tour in regions that you like to time off in, too! We've got a week on Devil's Lake in Lincoln City, OR, set aside for some songwriting sessions with my new lyricist, Lee Garrett, along with shows in Washington and Oregon. Cool!!

My participation in the Forum has been sparse out of necessity as I prepare for the long trip. I haven't figured out how to use my new Blackberry wireless handheld yet (no phone lines at our place in Oregon), so I'm not really sure how connected I can be. Where'd I put that manual???? ;)

Hope you all have a GREAT rest of the summer - see you when I can...!

Becaue of the new software implementation at work kicking into high gear I feel like I need a vacation more than ever. I have not turned a keyboard on in over three weeks because I am so burned out when I get home. I took an extended weekend last week and traveled to one of those little vacation towns with 10 family members. Now I really need a break so I am taking another long weekend to get away from work AND family. No tourist traps this time.
