Rod S Posted July 22, 2002 Posted July 22, 2002 I'm looking for an mp3 player to use mostly as a 'walkman' - mostly when I go running. Something lightweight - not too expensive. I'm not crazy about sound quality - it's just gotta be decent. I'm a bit at a loss on brands. Doing a search I found stuff like SONICblue, Rio, and stuff - nothing I recognized. Anybody use one of these things and can recommend a model/make? Intheether Posted July 22, 2002 Posted July 22, 2002 ..I second the ipod. Since apple came out with the 10 gig pod - the original 5 gig are pretty inexpensive. Rod: If you use a PC, I would not recommend it. My bud has a casio palm pilot that he swears by for mp3's. If you're interested, I'll get the model #. ~nel *

Jonathan Hughes Posted July 22, 2002 Posted July 22, 2002 Apple is releasing Windows software for the ipod in September,
daBowsa Posted July 22, 2002 Posted July 22, 2002 If you're a PC user, I'd defintely check out Sonic Blue's "Rio" line...their products are always top-notch. They've gone into production with Nike for a runner's MP3 player - the 32MB version is only $99. Check out the Rio600, 800 & 900, the RioOne and the psa[play60 & 120. USB for Mac or PC - you can't go wrong! The Rio800 has a built in mic for recording messages to yourself, taking notes, or capturing song ideas!!! http://www.sonicblue.com/audio/rio/portables.asp (oh yeah - once you click on a product, if you've got Flash installed, make sure you click on 'Demo' - what a great website! Options->LCD Display and you can actually use the product virtually!!!)
Intheether Posted July 22, 2002 Posted July 22, 2002 All 3 models are Mac and Windows compatible Ooops! I didn't mean to imply that they weren't (although you could have definitly read my post that way). But.... I think they're really optimized for a mac (i tunes, built in firewire, etc...) whereas other mp3 players are PC optimized. *
