sbrock1san.rr.com Posted July 6, 2002 Posted July 6, 2002 ...uh......er......um........maybe. I wouldn't put the Synclavier on that list because it's sampling abilities have probably been surpassed many years ago and other than that wasn't it just FM synthesis and a sequencer ? I'm not an expert on it because it was slightly out of my price range at the time it came out. For me analog synthesis was surpassed by digital sample-playback synths. If instruments like the Triton, Motif, and EMU samplers were available back in the 70's and 80's competing against those analog greats, I know where MY money would have gone. I like analog too and nothing has surpassed the Minimoog, but put me down as a DIGITAL MAN. The hardware VA synths on the market haven't come close to matching the Prophets, Minimoog, Jupiter 8, Oberheim Matrix-12, etc. for balls, warmth, and vibe. Some of the VA's do have their own unique qualities and should be viewed differently than true VCO-based analog synths.
