Hi,

I've just realized that the Digidesign 001 is not compatible with Windows 2000 platform.

Anyone has suggestions for a good PC audio recording software?

Thanks.

I use Cakewalk's Sonar 2.0. Have had great luck with it (and all versions of Cakewalk) since Cakewalk Pro Audio 7.

Cubase has had some good reviews as well, though I've never used it.

There are others, but since Apple just bought eMagic and announced they will stop supporting the Windows platform, I'd stay away from Logic (from a support perspective).

Hi Hanjaya,

If you need just an audio recording software (not midi) for a "good PC" :D , then check out CoolEditPro (by Syntrillium). Recently they made an upgrade to CEP 2. This new version is a very powerful one and being a happy CEP user (for more than 4 years already), I highly recommend it as a must have multitrack recording and audio editing tool. There is a free trial version of CEP 2.0 available for downloading at Syntrillium\'s website .

Honestly I don't know how CEP behaves under the conditions of Windows 2000 (I use Win'98 SE with which CEP is just happy) but you can learn more about the subject from Syntrillium Forums .

I am back.

Cool Edit Pro is an awesome bargain, and is actually similar in fundamental concept to my favorite, Samplitude. Both are a seamless marriage of audio editor and multitrack recorder and not really based on the paradigm of a "virtual midi/audio studio". If you're into AUDIO, CE Pro and Samplitude Studio offer the best native solutions at the best prices, IMO.

I may buy CEP sometime in addition to Samplitude, because the spectrum view and click removal are fantastic. The convolution reverb is like Samplitude's, you can use many of the same reverb impulse files even. Rumor has it that Samp's native convolution reverb is going real-time, but

at the moment, whether by unfortunate coincidence or dirty deed, Samplitude is caught in the crossfire of this whole Emagic/Apple thing. Version 6.5, which has the MIDI, VST and POW-R dithering features users and reviewers have been clamoring for for years, has been ready to ship for weeks and should have been in our hands on more or less the exact same day the Apple/Emagic thing happened. Hmmm.

IMO today is not the day to buy an audio multitracker, unless you're grabbing one of the competetive upgrades the companies are gleefully offering in the fray. I'd wait a month to see how things settle- you wouldn't want to have a prog that will no longer developed, nor would you want to miss out on a great program because its future is temporarily unknown.

I've just checked the sekd website, but I couldn't find the samplitude software on their products.

Is that a discontiued product?

Although it's going to cease development for the PC, Logic 5 has been bulletproof for me on my PC. Just when they got it right, Apple steps in and stops a good thing.

What kind of setup are you trying to create?

If you are going to need midi I would recomend Cubase VST 5.1 or Cubase SX.

If you do not need midi then I would recommend Vegas Video. If you do not need multi tracking capability then go with Sound Forge 6.0.

Hope that helps,

PS You may know this already but becareful using Windows 2000 with sound apps of any kind. It can be a little tricky! Watch those IRQs!

I only need audio multitrack recording capabilities which compatible with a lot of DSP effect plug-ins.

I've just downloaded the samplitude producer 90 days trial and I really love it so much, pretty easy to get familiar.

I start saving some money right now to buy this software.

Thanks for your help & recommendation guys.
