Renie Posted July 4, 2002 Posted July 4, 2002 Hi I'm using the Z1 as my studio's midi keyboard (everything else is a module or software) and am struggling to get a velocity curve setting that works well. The standard curve -4 -pretty much maxes out at vel.117 unless I hit the keys with my fist then it'll get up to 127. The other settings seem just as ineffective for a general usage mode, too quiet, too loud or too fixed. Am i missing something? or is the Z1 not a good general usage midi keyboard controller? thanks Renie Renie Coffey | riverattic
Magpel Posted July 5, 2002 Posted July 5, 2002 I haven't measured the velocities of the various curves on my Z1 but I have had some troubled triggering the Gigapiano with it. You do seem to lose either the ppp-est or fff-est samples, take your pick. The interesting psychological effect of that is the gigapiano sounds like a much cheesier sample when played from the Z1 than from my QS 8--which is totally reinforced by the feel difference between plastic synth and weighted action. That said, love the Z1 for what it is. It is a *tremendous* controller keyboard for softsynths, maybe not as much for multi-layered samples. And it is a damn cool synth for it's own sounds. Renie Posted July 5, 2002 Author Posted July 5, 2002 Magpel Thank you for responding- that totally ties in with what I'm experiencing. I think I need a new midi keyboard. Yes the Z1 is a cool synth.... Cheers! Renie Renie Coffey | riverattic
jimmyspick Posted July 5, 2002 Posted July 5, 2002 Have you tried editing the patches on the synths you are playing from the Z1 instead of the global Z1 parameter. I had a patch on a module for which I could not find a good Z1 aftertouch curve setting. It seemed to be either fully on or off. By editing the module's patch I was able to introduce a smoother aftertouch effect. It could be a bit time-consuming to alter every patch but I like to fiddle with the patches anyway, and it was only this one giving me a headache.
