DVD Copy Protection That Works! And I Like It!

Hollywood the movie rental place is renting DVD's for 99¢ a week! Rent as many as you want at a time, new titles and old titles. If you are late bringing them back it's an additional 99¢ for 4 more days. This IS NOT a promotion, these are the regular prices ALL THE TIME. I'm almost cross-eyed from watching movies. I've been checking out stuff I would never have rented for $4.00. And, the big question, why would I ever copy a DVD? There's no need to. In light of all the entertainment industry gouging lately, this is a breath of freash air. Sly

You may also want to check out Netflix . For $20/mo. you can keep up to 3 DVD rentals for as long or as little as you like - no late fees. They mail it to you and you mail it back in a prepaid envelope. A bunch of my friends have it and like it although some recent complaints about getting the new releases. But if you want to catch up on other movies, it's quite tempting. If I find myself actually having some time to sit and watch movies, I'll probably do it, too.

We are on the limited plan that is less money, but we can only have 2 out at one time. We've been consistantly surprised how quickly they receive our returns and how quickly we receive new selections. Been on it for 4 or 5 months and haven't been disappointed once. Craig, do you have any kids? I must've watched Monsters, Inc, Snow White & The Seven Dwarves, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Toy Story at LEAST 20 times each! :D (Not to mention I made a soundtrack CD of our VHS copy of Nightmare when I couldn't find it in stores. We've listened to the entire movie at least 50 times in the car! ) We don't buy many movies, but the ones we do buy we watch over and over.

It's easiest to find me on Facebook. Neil Bergman

That’s also a Hollywood in a suburb of Chicago, a co-worker gets them and brings them to me in the city. The Hollywood closest to me is trying to rent them for $1.99 and I think $3.00 for new releases. I’m not sure cause I stopped listening and started walking as soon as I DIDN’T hear 99¢. I think they’re REDLINING city folks, but that won’t be happening for too long, soon as I get some time to make a few calls to the media. Even though you can cancel Netflix at any time, I think it’s easier to go to the store. Plus at the store, by the movies being on the shelves you see flicks you might not have been considering. If I find myself actually having some time to sit and watch movies, I'll probably do it, too. I’ve been using my hang out and drink with my buddies time. Works out real good and makes your lady think you were thinking about her when you come home with movies to watch. I just have to remember to get one of those sappy movies next time, instead of all action, war, sci-fi, horror, etc., that made her kind o’ suspicious! Especially if the only other thing around is a Blockbuster. That’s true. at $3 or $4 each Netflix is the shit, but right now Hollywood has them beat.
Sly

I dunno'. In the last five years there have only been a couple of movies that I have, or even wanted to see more than once. Whereas with music, most people listen to stuff over and over. I think it might be a different paradigm altogether.

Yeah, Jotown I don't buy movies, and I wasn't renting them either. But at 99¢ each for 5 days I said what the heck I can do some catching up. There are probably a few movies I would buy just to have, like Alien, Predator, some vintage stuff Citizen Kane, Day The Earth Stood Still and quite a few more. Since we now have DVD's I will more than likely start a collection. I can get 2 or more DVD's in the space of one VHS case, and DVD's don't have any moving parts (not to mention the tape). Sly

<< i rented spiderman [which sucked btw] on sunday and it was $3.79 >> You just saved me $3.79. BTW I did buy myself "Attack of the Clones" for my birthday; the richness of the all-digital production/duplication process is awesome. <> Those I DO buy! And Nightmare Before Christmas rocks IMHO. Now, if they just released the complete Pee-Wee's Playhouse on DVD, I'd be set.

I'm gonna catch up on the Sopranos from the first episode! I never watched it cause I didn't want to start from the middle. Yeah, Mr. A, with DVD I can SEE and HEAR a movie in more detail. I think Spiderman might be worth a look-see just to check out the score by Danny Elfman. And his commentary. I saw it at the show and I didn't watch it on DVD this time, I just checked out the special features and extras. Sly
