I need a cheap two track editor

Recommended Posts

I need a simple program to edit down some two track mixes. Nothing fancy, maybe cross fading would be nice. I need it to run on my PC. I have Pro-Tools for real editting, I just need something to make quick compilations in the field... My main need is for it to be cheap...under $200 street would be great. Any suggestions?

Seriously, what the f*ck with the candles? Where does this candle impulse come from, and in what other profession does it get expressed?

Is free a good price? ;) There's Audacity , available for Windows/Mac/Linux, and, if you don't need to work with 24-bit files, the CoolEdit 96 demo works quite well on Windows...

There weren't enough enhancements to make it worth the $$.
I really don't know what to put here.

I use this program exclusively when I'm gigging to chop up those 80 minute shows etc...

I want something that I can use to quickly edit together a handful of discs that some production assistant hands me right before a show. I've been using Sony MDSE12 minidisc's to do this on site, but it's so much easier on my ProTools rig at home... I'll try Goldwave and see how well I can get around... Thanks everyone for your quick suggestions. I've already downloaded and tried Cool Edit and Audacity...I quite like the GUI's on those...I'm so used to ProTools...I'm playing with SondForge at the moment...Valkie, how did you find it so cheap!?

Sound Forge 6.0 is hugely faster in my experience, especially if you are doing processing and edits. Unlike 5 and earlier, you are not constantly writing and undoing and resaving those things that you don't like. It's pretty smart.

For the money Cool Edit 2000 is fantastic. Also, you will hear murmurs from time to time that he folks at Syntrillium are high artists of DSP and that their software "sounds better." I Use CE2K and SoundForge. Love 'em both. I prefer the Sound Forge interface but CE2K has a lot of neat features, and is cheap.

Gearmike, is your PC running Win98/ME? ProTools-Free would be a way to go. Doesn't work on NT4/2K/XP. I am using Cool EDit Pro. Cool Edit 2000 would do what you want in your price range.

Cool Edit 2000 or Sound Forge XP. Under $70 for each and well worth the cost. DX support in each..
