I don't have a B3 but I use an XK2 (only 8 bars) so I don't know if this will help but I'll try anyway :D .

I just grab all 8 drawbars and put them somewhere in the middle so I'll get something like 36445346 (0=nothing and 8=max) I'll put some overdrive in it and play for a bit. If I don't like it I'll put some more high in it and experiment with the other drawbars.

Try 08800000 with max overdrive for a really "dirty" sound :D .

Hope this was helpful.

The standard 'jazz' setting is 888000000, 3rd harmonic percussion.

If the S03 has individual drawbar settings to work with, max out the 3rd harmonic percussion (mono trigger) and then almost max out the 16', 5 1/3', and 8' bars. That's a good starting point.

If you can, add additional drawbars to a few sliders.

Another of my favorites looks kind of like this (my Korg is in its case and I'm too lazy to get up, so I don't have all the numbers right)

16: 8

next brown one: 4ish

8: 8

4: 8

next brown one: 0

2: 6

next brown one: 1

next brown one: 3ish

1: 6

I just tried this one on my new VK8. 808000000, no percussion. Really mellow. I'm trying to find that "theater organ" kind of sound (the one Larry Goldings is using on "Laugh clown, laugh" on Light Blue. 808000468, no percussion and fast Leslie comes close. Anyone?

You almost hit my XK2 settings. 335533333, chorus and vibrato full on, no leslie, no prec. Reverb at 9 o'clock, distortion somewhere between 10 and 12:30 depending on the song. I turn on the second manual and set it for 842000000 for my bass. Kcbass

After a few days of experimenting and rehearsing with the VK8 I find these settings to be really great:

888000000, C3, 3rd perc. soft, fast - jazz solos and louder comping,

858000000, bass, just a little fatter than the standard 838000000, which is a great setting for soft comping, both no percussion,

848040136, C3, no perc. Leslie either slow or fast, great for ballads, corny jazz and mellow gospel,

888886666, C3, no perc. great for that loud Santana stuff or loud gospel shouts.

And of course there are much more possibilities.

For standard blues tone, I use 6884 00000. I find backing off a bit on 16' makes the sound clearer. That could be due to B4, or my little PA, and might be different on a real Hammond. This with scanner set to C2, and percussion on or off as needed. Works with a variety of settings for distortion/drive.

Of course, all drawbar settings need to be tuned for the particular organ you're playing.

Dream pointed out a nice touch, start with your basic blues setting and pull out a bit of the second-to-highest bar to get that Allman Bros tone (er, one of them, but a common one).

Here's one I find I use a LOT, especially when I'm sitting back and playing more like a pad than an active part, on and off the Leslie for texture:

8000 05005

I use it with medium to low drive and scanner off to get a clean, clear tone. The sound of the Leslie ramping up or down is very rich.

For swing, with leslie on fast, scanner on C2 or C3, I use inverted-V-shaped settings, like 853024688 or 84048888 (often depending on whether I'm playing mid octaves or highest octave).

What's to kid? With percussion on, it's a viable patch. Try it sometime... :thu:

Cheers,

SG

That's right, I remember reading somewhere (not sure where), that using perc. and no draws, that is how the Hammond makes its "piano" sound.

Furthermore, in the less is more category, there are times when your settings SHOULD be 00000000. If only guitar players had such a setting ....sigh
