guestuserguestuser.com
Just curious: on a B3, there are those preset keys: how do they work, technically? Since the B3 is somewhat electromechanical, it means that the presets have to simulate slider movements. How'd they do that?

Frosty_dup1
They don't need slider (drawbar) movements - just positions. The drawbars aren't continuous - more like an 8 position switch. If you look in the back there is something like a patchbay - lots of wires coming into a panel. You connect different wires to dfferent positions to change the patches. Hammond kindly provide a little bag full of screws to make the connections. http://www.theatreorgans.com/hammond/faq/files/bri-pics/73288_05.jpg Frosty

The different wires correspond to the footage(16', 5 1/3', 8', etc.) and where you attach them on the post for that preset determines the volume. Very cool. I love Hammond B3/C3s. There's really nothig like 'em. steadyb

So, to change the presets, you have to go in and do some re-wiring of this patch bay. The presets are literally 'patches'! Thanks for the URL too. coyote
I considered doing that on my A-100. But I became more adept at playing w/ the drawbars. I'm glad I left the presets alone.
