I guess you're looking for the insider story but from my point of view they really have a good thing going. Pete Leoni started that Roll Your Own DAW series years ago and then he just published the update of in EQ which I'm sure he got some reimbursment for. Then ya got Rip Rowan. I think I read in some other forum that some of the folks on their BBS's were real elitists and chided amateurs big time, like they were "too special" to deal with non-pro folks.
