First song that comes to mind is Prince`s "girlfriend". the way the voices take over for the instruments and vice-versa. Casey. Another is Led Zepplin`s "All My Love". Casey

Well... I don't know any songs in perticular, BUT, some genres and what they do to me...

Gothic Trance: Takes me to another world, almost literally

Electric Trance: Makes me want to puke

Heavy Metal: Gives me a motivation and energy

Gothic Rock: Takes me into darkness' place

Romantic: Reminds me of being in love

Hip-Hop: Makes me want to rip through the 1000 dollar speakers.

Something I recommend you guys check out:

dead can dance - the host of seraphim (trance mix)

Anything by Bjork

Lamb

Tim 'Love' Lee

Extended Spirit:solid water

Cocteau Twins (esp. Four Calendar Cafe)

Thievery Corp.

The Orb - U.F.Orb

Most of the pop/popular music just does nothing for me - it seems so lifeless, overproduced and stillborn. I'll take flaws, experimentation and honesty any day of the week.

It might be easier to say what doesn't move me. Just about

any played by "Movie Tunes", you know that stuff you have to listen to before the movies.H-E-L-P!!!:eek:

Hmmm, I just picked up Randy Newman's most recent album, Bad Love. There are a couple of really beautiful songs on it.

The guitarist John Scofield moves me immensely, both his playing and his compositions.

I haven't heard a new band that's hit me hard in a while, but this just be my own hardening of spirit.

John Hiatt's "What'll We Do Now"

Check out the Sweet Clementines CD at bandcamp

Symphony X, of all things, can make me shed a tear. Even though SX is known to be a very hard neo-classical/shred band, they can have these most amazing solos, and sometimes, when the guitarist just hits THAT note, the perfect one, my heart jumps. Its pretty much the same with every kind of music. Playing the right notes, at the right time. Genre is not important.

I'd say about half the stuff I've been listening to in the past 2 years or so have been classical (mostly romantic). Bjork is great. I've been a fan of Radiohead for a while, but not until recently have I really gotten into them. I also recently discovered a new band by the name of Jadies Lantern and I had a chance to see a couple of their shows which was awesome. You should check them out: www.jadieslantern.com

"forever" by the brand new heavies (the remix) makes ecstacy (not the drug) run through my whole body. i close my eyes and think about the night i stood on the beach and proposed to my now wife. what does it is the phaser on the pad sound. anybody else dig it?

a lot of music can influence you emotionally if you let it. "smells like teen spirit" can, so can bob the builder's latest song. oh, "i turn to you" by mel c makes me well up a bit. "vallee d'obermann" by liszt is fab too.

for any of you into gospel hip-hop, "the love letter" from the cross movement's album "heaven's mentality" - within 5 seconds of it starting you'll have a pool of tears in the bottom of my car.

In the beginning "Third Stone From the Sun" Frank Zappa

"She Loves You" Beatles

Buffalo Springfield first album

Then alot of stuff through the late sixties. Now-a-days, anything with enough DB's down below 45 Hz tends to move me

somewhat SouthEast (there's a low spot there in my studio) ;) nitecrawler

Brazilian music really touches me in a way I can't explain, Certainly Jobim, and also Ivan Lins, Milton Nascimento, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, etc. Makes me want to learn Portugeuse, because my memories of high school Spanish aren't doing justice to understanding to beauty of the lyrics.

Some of the songs that move me:

Weather Report "A Remark You Made"

Beach Boys "God Only Knows", "In My Room", "The Warmth of the Sun", and "Caroline, No"

John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman "Lush Life" & "My One and Only Love"

Joan Armatrading "The Weakness In Me"

Monk "'Round Midnight" (performed by nearly anyone)

Patsy Cline "Crazy"

Roy Orbison "Crying"

Al Green "Let's Stay Together" and "L-O-V-E"

This Past year it's been stuff like Jill Scott, India Arie on the soul tip, Marcus Miller on the jazz bass tip, and Common on the Rap tip. It's funny cause the Common CD- "Like Water For Chocolate", although its a rap CD, it maybe the most 'musical' of all of them....Some of you guys that may not have heard of him would really enjoy it! Most of the other stuff that moves me is the older stuff like-

The jazz I like- Dexter Wanzel- 'Life On Mars', Sanborn, Rochelle Ferrell, Santana, Bob James, Stanley, Cobham & George Duke etc.

Blues stuff- Albert Collins- "If Trouble Was Money" and anything by Stevie Ray Vaughn(of course).

Rock stuff- I like the old Led Zepplin, Frank Marino & Mahogony Rush, The Police, Journey(dont hate me),The B-52's, The Clash.

Funk- Slave, P Funk, The Blackbyrds, 'Old' Prince, The Ohio Players, Cameo

R&B- Aretha!! Aretha!! Aretha!! A lil Chaka and EW&F too...

Rap- Eric B and Rakim, Biggie, KRS-1, Method Man, Common, Slum Village(dats some fonky shit!!)

There's ton's of other things I like and listen too, but that's the stuff that really MOVES me....

TROLL . . . ish.

if im already "somewhere" because of a relationship,

then Stabbing westwards "darkest days" cd is all i need.

its pretty moving to me at all times, actually.

im not a huge staind fan but "outside" currently moves me, its pretty much exactly where i am with my life right now.

same with "excess baggage", by the same band.

A perfect circle, TooL, NIN, Radiohead, soundgarden and assorted soft depressing acoustic guitar songs are also moving

in other fasion, R.A.T.M./deftones/nirvana etc give me energy

incubus and assorted U2 makes me feel "alive"

im also moved by certain classical pieces. knowing nothing about the genre, i dont which pieces they are or who wrote them, THAT angers me, so i guess im moved twice :)

well i could go on for hours. alot of music. depressing is the most moving.

ps oh ya, video game music is very moving to me, stuff by Robert prince (doom, conveys evil :) ) or Nobou uematsu (final fantasy, conveys alot of things but mostly a sense of "largeness" ) espesically

" the living years " by Mike n the mechanics . That song hits home .

I can say that spiritual music can really inspire me .

I remember hearing Lee Greenwoods " God bless the USA " the day after the attack .......it brought a tear to my eye !

For feel good music I turn to Tower of Power or the WHO !

I must say that I have written a few very personal songs that have recently been recorded .

The feeling of recording your music is GREAT ! I am mad that I waited so long to put some tracks down !

Thank goodness for the hard disk recorder ! dano
