RABid
I am looking for a more comfortable keyboard stand the fits my needs. Here are my desires and requirements. It should hold at least two and preferably three keyboards. Largest being 76 keys. It needs to hold monitors, one on each side. Height should be low enough to be comfortable for someone who is sitting while playing. All keyboards should be close to level, not tilted at a pre-determined angle. It needs to be affordable. Bonus the third tier should have a shelf for holding modules such as the Emu XL-7. Currently I have a stand for two keyboards. It is designed for someone who is standing on stage, thus the keyboards are too high for comfortable playing while sitting. Also, the top keyboard sits at an uncomfortable angle that cannot be adjusted. Any ideas? This post edited for speling. However, it does not adjust down quite to sitting height - you have to sit high - the top of my keys on my bottom board are 31 inches off the floor, of which 3.5" are the key bed itself. Also, its an X stand so there is limited space for pedals. If this were my wish list rather than yours, an unimpeded understory would be part of it. The tilts are adjustable. The bad news is that the clamps tend to lose their settings when you disassemble. I put gaffer tape on mine to make re-assembly easy and this is effective as long as you tighten the clamps back down after disassembling for transportation. I actually use the third tier with a music stand. Does not help with the module and speaker thing. Maybe KEYBOARD could do a construction article - I would like a stand such as you describe for use at home (except with an 88 on the bottom). Then I could keep the Ultimate just for gigging. RABid
Yep. I don't gig anymore so this is for home. The only time I found something like this, it was studio furniture and cost more than my primary keyboard. This post edited for speling. cg1155
Well, it will be hard to find one stand that will do all these things since they are somewhat custom - ie., shelf for modules AND shelves for speakers etc. I am a Standtastic fan so I will put in my plug for their stands. For specifics look about 2/3 of the way down on this thread where I am talking to Steve about Standtastic stands. How Do You Make Your Rig Look Good My solution would be to put actual wood shelves on the top two tiers, on the second tier it would extend past the ends of the keyboard to give room for the speakers, and the third tier would hold the modules. The nice thing about the standtastic stands is that the tiers are width adjustable so you can get the modules close to you, the tiers are fully height adjustable so you can have anything from 2" off the floor to whatever. The space under the stand is empty so you can cram in lots of pedals. The thing is rock solid and practically indestructable and there is no descending weight limits on the tiers, so you could put 3 S80's up there if you wanted to. Anyway, just my $0.02, YMMV. -Casey
Shiver
hi there, have you checked into the quiklok stuff? they make some really flexible workstation/stand systems that you can keep building up and the price on them is relatively cheap. They're built really well too. cheers, Shiver Rule #2: Don't sweat the petty stuff, and don't pet the sweaty stuff.
Brewster
Quiklok stuff is cheap and solid. The only thing is that it seperates the keyboards too much for my liking. I bought a two tier stand and had it adjusted, and it works great for stand up and seated playing. Brew
