ahmedae
Description of the Problem I'm having with Alesis QS6.1: (1) Less than two months after I got my QS6.1 Keyboard in July 2000 from the united states, it froze while I was playing. The keys and buttons were not responding at all. sound was not coming when keys are pressed. The LCD was lit but filled with squares or sometimes garbage. (2) I turned power off-on a few times then it became OK. (3) It happened several more times, getting more and more severe each time, requiring many more power off-on to reset. (4) The last time was IT. For many months (I think more than a year now !!) I have been trying to restart the keyboard, all I get is a lit LCD with 10 or so squares at the top line. (5) I tried rebooting as mentioned in the manual and recommended by Alesis Tech. Support, but no use. (6) I am in Bahrain and there is no local agent. WHAT SHOULD I DO???? OPTIONS: (1) Is it a software problem => can I reload the programs through the PC connection? (2) Is it a hardware problem => Who is qualified to repair the keyboard (3) Should I just give up and throw away this new keyboard ?????? I AM QUITE DISAPPOINTED. KTempo
Well, I have an Alesis QS6.1 but I've never experienced the problem that you're having. I think you might have a software problem. Did you re-initalize the keyboard? I don't know off hand (don't have the manual with me) how to do that but it's in the manual. Double check and make sure that you have the correct power wattage to run it. Just because it lights the LCD screen doesn't mean that it'll run it smoothly. Also, check their website to see if there's an downloadable OS that you can reload into the keyboard or reload the banks (presets/patches) into your keyboard. Contact Alesis again and ask them where is the nearest repair center in your area or if you have to send it directly to Alesis for repairing just in case reloading "stuff" doesn't work. Hope this helps.

You can't reload the operating software. The synth needs to go in to qualified repair personnel. If the soft reset (holding down buttons 0 and 3 while powering up) isn't doing it, there's not anything else that you can do except have it repaired. You may very well need a new OS chip, or some other fix that end-users cannot perform. Since you bought it in the United States, I believe that you may be pretty much out of luck for warranty service in your area. You might be able to find a shop locally to work on it if you're willing to pay for it - see if you can contact the person who imports Alesis products into Bahrain (if there is one) for help in locating such a shop. Unfortunately, if the situation internationally is anything like the US situation, you may be headed for a nightmare - I understand that having to get Alesis warranty service right now is a bit of an ordeal. dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <== Professional Affiliations: Royer Labs • Music Player Network
ahmedae
Thanks guys. Since I've tried the soft reboot (0 + 3 + Power on) and it did not work, I'll try my luck with the nearest Alesis dealer. (I should have gone for that Korg N5EX instead !!!!!) Merry Christmas to all. Jazzman
Just a thought ahmedae, ................What type of power do you have out there????? Is it compatable to the unit. I own a QS6.0, love it, but never had any problems like yours. Check out the power requirements, sometimes operating voltages my vary within the keyboard to a point that the unit doesn't function properly(brain farts). Maybe you need a power conditioner or something to maintain proper voltages. Anyone else have any thoughts? my 2 cents worth............
