ChrisF.
Was wondering what the experience is out there with B3 modules. I am looking into Oberheim OB3 and Emu B3. Any advice, input, or experience with these or others would be hugely appreciated. I checked out the NI B4, but it seems a little more complex than I'd like for live performance. Thanks again. Frosty_dup1
Chris, Have a look at the clonewheel group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CloneWheel/ You might have to join, but there is a ton of info on Hammond clones. Also look here: http://music.ashbysolutions.com/clonewheel/ I have a VK-7, but from what I can gather the voce 5 is the bees knees of modules. Hammond also have a module. Either of these is better than the Emu (YMMV). Frosty (Proud new owner of 1966 C3) [ 12-18-2001: Message edited by: Frosty ]
Frosty_dup1
Wow - I've just been promoted to senior member. Is that for my inciteful comments, helpful nature or because I now own a real Hammond? Frosty
tenthplanet
The Emu is tough to beat but a little tricky to change on the fly. You can always set up presets in advance but don't count on moving drawbar type of changes. That being said, the Emu really shines on having a decent sound without a leslie or simulator. They made some samples for it by recording a Hammond run though a leslie. IanD
I have the ob3-squared unit, I love the sound and its very easy to operatate. Some people on here have said the overdrive is not so good, but I quite like it I thinks is a good value unit Ian
guestuserguestuser.com
I have a slightly different question for B3 fans, although I think it's still on-topic. and that question is, how do you like the Nord Electro? Do you think it's in the same league with the Korg CX3? Or is CX3 significantly better?
tenthplanet
For what it does, the Electro is a bit overpriced. In it's price range these days I would expect a weighted keyboard (ala Yamaha s-80). If they bring it out an the module and can get it down in price, then maybe Ok. The cx-3 while being more than the Electro pricewise gets the hammond thing down. Word has it Keith Emerson has two of them. If you can't or won't tote around a big hammond and you play live get a cx-3. If you're just recording look into the Emu module.
