Denis007
Hello, I am planning to buy a "light weight" synthesizer, XP-30 or KORG Karma. I know that Karma has advantage of having sequencer onboard but I would like to hear your opinion regarding the sound quality. Thanks a lot ! D. Dan O
Ok , Ok Xp30 vs. Karma ? The Xp30 sounds are more authentic than the Karma . They really are 2 different keyboards made for 2 different customers ! You may want to go back a few post ( of this forum) and review what end users have said . Once again 2 different keyboards , but I would say that if you are looking for overall sound quality .....I would choose the XP30 ! Gus Lozada
Hi Denis. Simply put, KARMA's main intention was not to be a "generic sounds" synth. It sounds terrific, but it can not compare to the XP30. It was designed to create weird arpeggios you could never do without the KARMA system. If you are looking for generic sounds (bass, pianos, strings... ) for "the gig" or studio work, the XP30 is a better option. Sounds, as dano says, more "real". tenthplanet
Karma sounds like a Triton. It just lacks the sampling. It can do bread and butter sounds. It is a dead heat sound wise with the XP-30. Michael Q:What do you call a truck with nothing in the bed, nothing on the hitch, and room for more than three people in the cab? A:"A car".... karmadude
I have a Karma and know little about the XP-30. "Wierd arpeggios..." WTF???????????? Try a Karma. If sounds are all you are interested in then only YOUR ear will guide you. If you want the most groudbreaking synth technology, a website and support group managed (Yahoo) by the inventor of the instrument then go Karma. Get in your cruiser and go to a store that has one. For composition, arranging, idea-enhancer, etc., ... go Karma. If you just want a keyboard controlling some decent technology (chips/microprocessor music design application) with nothing much to offer than 'same old same old' then get something else. You also haven't explained what YOU want to do with an instrument, either. What is the useful purpose for this or any other instrument you consider? We need to know stuff like that. 'Light weight' is really a non-musical qualification and I doubt if I can help other than to say the Karma is very light to carry. tenthplanet was correct. It has a Triton engine with the Karma function, sequencing, no sampling. Jim Sievers
