Imagine
Are people still using the Akai MPC3000 or has everyone gone CD drum loop crazy? Just wondering... Imagine

surfjunkie
i've got a 2000, but i don't use it much. cubase/loopazoid is much easier & faster. i only use my mpc for the pads and if i need extra outs. and i don't use loops, except the ones i make myself. Wiggum
You've struck upon my million dollar idea Wager... I absolutely hate programming drum patterns on keys, and I am dying for a manufacturer to make a finger pad controller. No sounds, no BS, just playable, rubber pads. I too do all of my drums within Cubase, but I find it takes a lot of time to get the feel I want with keys. Alas, I know of no manufacturer who has plans to build such a device. surfjunkie
yup. i've started a couple of threads about the midi pad controller idea before. i thumbed through one of craig's books (digital projects...) at a bookstore the other day, and it has plans for a midi controller. he basically says you can make a keyboard or rig up a guitar, or use your imagination. i have an imagination, but i don't have electronic skills. i want a tabletop device, approx 12"x12", under 1" thick. the pads can be smaller than the mpc's, but i like the 4x4 layout with 4 banks. add 8-12 cc knobs, and maybe 2-4 ribbon controllers (maybe even an x/y kaos-type pad). and how about midi and usb? this sounds like something roland could whip out, and maybe they could even put a d-beam on it! please please please! (sorry to hijack your thread with my pipe dream, imagine...)
Jan Folkson
I use an MPC3K in addition to loop elements whenever I program drums. Wiggum
Hey Wager, I dropped a post here a while back about Roland offering the Handsonic as a midi-only device. It was an interesting discussion, and most agreed that Roland would not want to undercut the original Handsonic (I don't find the onboard sounds that great). I think it would be a great tool, but I don't know of anyone planning to make something. Wiggum
surfjunkie
with all of the people using softsynths these days, i'm sure we'll see a ton of new controllers soon. i think roland will jump on it.
