Follow my lead....umm, tempo please.

I have a song in my head that I would like to put onto midi. The song is piano based and the tempo is constantly changing. Is there a program that will follow my playing, record it into midi, and keep track of tempo changes? I cannot find that feature in Sonar, though I may be overlooking it. I thought about turning off the click track and just recording into Sonar without using notation screen. In short, ignoring any predefined measure length or tempo. If I do it this way I can record all parts but I will never be able to print notation. It would also throw off any effects defined to follow midi tempo.

Any other suggestions?

One upon a time there was something called "FREE STYLE, the trackless sequencer".

I don't remember if it was from OPCODE (RIP) or MOTU...

Perhaps I am wrong but it was supposed to do exactly what you ask.

Freestyle is distributed by MOTU, and it does, in fact, adjust it's tempo to follow the player. It's actually prettty good at it, too...

What you can do in SONAR is to first create a TEMPO MAP.

It's very easy to draw -it allows curves- tempo changes instead of inserting TEMPO change commands.

You can predefine tempo changes over time, then start recording. It will -of course- give you the "click" to follow it according to what you defined.
