DeeSquare
Does anyone out there know of a current hardware synth, VA or fill in the blank, that can recreate the sound of the ARP String Ensemble? If it doesn't exist as a single package do any current effects processors come close to recreating the chorus effect that was in the ARP? I really want that sound. I could just keep an eye out for one but would prefer a modern recreation if for no other reason than serviceability. Any advice? Thanks!
Dave Bryce
There's a pretty good sample of it on the Alesis Vintage Keys QCard... dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <== Professional Affiliations: Royer Labs • Music Player Network
Bucktunes
I had a patch on my old K2000 that was called "Solina Phase" that pretty well nailed it. It'll work on any K-series (2000, 2500, 2600, K2VX, etc.). I'm not sure where you'd find it now. I downloaded it among several hundred K2000/2500 sounds from Kurzweil's website something like 5 years ago. Peace all, Steve ><> Steve
keyoctave
At one time, I owned an Arp omni 2 and I always loved it's synth string sound. I found that same sound in an Alesis Nanosynth.(don't remember the sound name) It was accesable with the front controls so you don't need to sent midi control and bank changes to get to it. Though I don't have it anymore, the Nanosynth nailed that arp sound and I used it quite a bit on gigs. There have been some for sale on E-bay from time to time. Kurzweil PC3, Hammond SK-1 + Ventilator, Korg Triton. 2 JBL Eon 510's.
marino
I have "Solina Phaze" in three versions - I found them all in the Program Farm for the K2500 (readable from a K2000 with a recent OS), in the bank "Anapads". It's a fairly good sound. I also have that String Ensemble sound in the Vintage expansion board for the Roland XP-80 (works on most Roland ROMplers). With a few tweaks, and enabling more Tones, it's very usable. The Kurz version seems to be darker and deeper, while the Roland has more high end and transparency. Hope this helps Carlo
Dave Bryce
The Solina Phase patch was originally in Andrew Schelsionger's Best of Analog programs for the K2000, which is an unbelievable bank of programs- no samples... I'll bet that Mike Martin can probably point you to someplace where it lives...Michael? dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <== Professional Affiliations: Royer Labs • Music Player Network
Mr Blab Blab Bla
My Arp String Ensemble is still giving me problems on all the A's. they all seem to sound 2 octaves higher than they should. Wicked sound (even dry!)... but can it be repaired?? Does anyone have any ideas?
DeeSquare
Thanks everyone! I have to say in terms of content and characters this really is one of the best forums around. I've considered picking up a K2xx to round out my equipment (currently a Hammond A-100 and a Yamaha S80, I'm a bread and butter kind-a-guy). I read in a past thread that a few of you really like the K2xx's ability to do the VA thing. This info may seal it for me. In my search I ran across a sample CD from Sonic Implants. They have a CD with the ARP and a Mellotron. The MP3s sounded pretty good. Has anyone tried those?
