I want the 32 voices of VA in a keyboard (successor to the JP-8000, anyone?)!

I also expected to see a groovebox-styled pattern sequencer in the SH-32, and maybe a vocoder. I'll also miss the Feedback OSC and Super Saw, if they're truly gone.

I like the retro-design and the name. Any hints at the price? Nice to see Roland back in the VA competition after a lengthy wait!

You could use a JP8000 to control it.... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist.

This ain't no track meet; this is football.

Yeah, I could, but I don't really connect with modules the way I do a synth. I want everything right there.

I guess my point was more that the JP-8000 is aging a bit (even though it's still popular), and it would be exciting to see a new Roland VA synth with 32-voice polyphony (assuming it'll cost significantly less than a Novation Supernova).

You want more outputs, but you prefer softsynths partly because they cost less? BTW, how many outputs does each of those softsynths have?

And you didn't like the interface of your MC-505, but prefer softsynths which have no real interface at all?

hmmm... how could Roland have done a better job with the SH-32 that it would interest you more?

Hey, I'm just playing devil's advocate - recognize the merits of softsynths and I understand what the SH-32 is. But I'm curious, too, in the apparent growing phenomenon of buyers expecting manufacturers to build instruments that do everything - and cost almost nothing.

For instance, I'd like a keyboard version of the SH-32, along with all the waveforms of the JP-8080 and a vocoder too. But I'm torn, because if this instrument came into being, but with a street price of $2000, I don't know if I'd buy.

I feel for the manufacturers who have to deal with this balancing act every day.

Its ugly. 2 outputs. 4 parts and 32 voices?

If its a 4 part synth there should be 4 outputs.

If its a dsp synth, no layering samples stealing voices etc. 32 voices is too much for just 2 outputs and 4 parts.

That would be appropriate for a 16 voice synth perhaps.

It needs 4 outputs, better yet 6 outs with 8 parts or even 16 parts.

It better sound great and be affordable.

Regarding interface, Absynth I think is at home on the computer, and so is fm synthesis. Even hardware FM synths are easier to do on computer.

And something like reaktor, the only hardware equivilant would be nord modular, guess what, has a computer editor.

Personally I'll take reaktor and a doepfer drehbank:-)

Also, software synths dont have outputs, but they have virtual outputs as vsti and additionally there are many many soundcards with mucho outputs.
