An analog modelling synth: http://www.roland.co.jp/products/mi/SH-32.html ... and an XV series module: http://www.roland.co.jp/products/mi/XV-5050.html Sadly, from what I can tell, the VA synth looks like a stripped down version of the JP8000's analog model (32 polyphony, 4 timbral and more EFX though). I was hoping they would join the European manufacturers and add synthesis features, not take them away. I don't speak Japanese.... can anyone translate/confirm the details? A Roland rep I spoke to recently hinted of this, since the 1010 was the only product in the JV/XP line not yet replaced. With the VX-3080 selling for $999, you'd think that a 64 note polyphony version would have to sell for significantly less (maybe $995 list/$695 street). They seem to have taken away (feedback oscillator, multisaw, vocoder, etc.) but they seem to have added too (spectrum waveform (?) better lfo's, more stacking options, etc.) I only wish they had put in a decent modulation matrix. It was missing on the JP's, and they still haven't provided much modulation control. It seems the usual pre-wired routings for mod-wheel and foot controller. The European synths (and even the Korg and Yammie analog models) appear to have them licked in this department. ... Oh well, maybe it's under the hood somewhere.
