Should I just give up on the AN1x and buy an AN200?

I've been waiting for months for a Yamaha AN1X to show up on eBay from a seller with more than a +2 feedback rating.

I'm just not comfortable handing over $500 via paypal to someone with no reputation invested on eBay.

However, it seems that no one with any decent feedback is putting this board up for bid.

Soooooo, I'm getting tired of waiting. Would it be so bad if I just break down and buy the AN200 and a decent midi controller instead? Would I regret such a decision?

Well, I told you I was out of patience. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif

Five minutes ago, I ordered an MK-125 2 octave controller and a Yamaha AN200.

I found a thread that debated the merits of the AN200 over the AN1X on a Yahoo forum.

I'm satisfied that I will be happy with my new toys when they arrive, and I have the added benefit of being able to change keyboards at will without lugging around a dedicated board.

Have fun!

Krakit:

I think you did the right thing by waiting for the AN1x. It's a fun synth and well worth the price.

Oh wait... did you say you bought the AN200? Well, then thats the right thing too. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif

Hope to see you over at Yahoo groups: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AN1x-list

Cheers,

Jerry

I did join that group (after reading the an1x vs an200 thread), but I don't know if I'll be an active contributer, since I don't have an an1x.

Of course, there is no forum devoted to the AN200, so perhaps your forum will expand?

There's a number of An200 owners on the list. The analog model is similar nough that many patches go both ways. Most of the people on the forum use the same editing software too (AN1XEdit). So I think of it as just one large family. (despite the name) http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

I was going thru a similar debate recently, but I was trying to debate between a AN200 and the PLG AN card for my Cs6x. I ended up going with the plug in card since it's cheaper and 'unobstrusive'. I also decided to use the difference for a dedicated midi controller, so I'll be able to have some kind of real time control. I really didn't need the extra voices in the AN200, although the idea of having a box to fiddle with while I watched TV seemed pretty cool. As far as programming, it seemed pretty similar.

I'll check out the forum at yahoo groups (damn, one more email to read everyday http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif I already subscribe to about 8 other ones...)

My AN200 arrived this weekend, but I didn't have lots of time to play with it, until this morning.

I spent two hours having all kinds of fun just tweaking the knobs on the surface and ignoring the manual. I'll spend some time reading the aforementioned and installing the editor as well.

For now, my first impression is that I have made a good choice. This is a ton of fun and I can't wait to start employing this tool as a regular addition to my arsenal. Changing the parameters on the fly and still having MIDI control is a brand new experience for me. I usually set up my analog boards for a particular sound and then leave all the controls alone. It's nice to be able to save sounds as a scene and call them up whenever I like.
