gilwe
Is there any software that can play sound fonts through midi files with no compatible sound card needed ?
Rod S
SONAR has a softsynth that can play soundfonts. There might be others. Bobro
Virtual Sampler, available at Maz, plays Soundfonts, Seer Systems Reality, Reaktor 3 and NI Battery do, Halion theoretically does, AudioCompositor renders offline with soundfonts... there are a number of options. SF2 has become a widely supported format. The player in Sonar is probably the the most straightforward and integrated, that's just an educated guess, having used SF2s with several different programs and talking to people who've used the SF2s I've made. -CB
inadequate.com
There was a couple of options here http://www.kvr-vst.com but I haven't looked recently. They keep the site right up to date so all the vst options will be there.
Magpel
The SONAR thing is called LiveSynth, I believe. Haven't used it. I have Reality to play .sf2s and it works fine. Check out the Sweet Clementines CD at bandcamp
