Guest Room Warrior
Maybe I already have and didn't know it. I've been doing a lot of video scoring that sounds kind of like that... although the beats I usually work with would be described as trance, I think. But it's a blend of electronica breakbeat, classical string and horns, jazz trio (with a lead saxaphone) and thick "new agey" synth pads. Of course, my version of said description will sound different than yours... since writing about music is like dancing about architecture. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif - Jim Bordner Jim Bordner Gravity Music "Tunes so heavy, there oughta be a law." Bucktunes
I love that kind of music! Personally, I lean more toward film/modern classical than new age, though. A lot of film music is harmonically similar to jazz. Weave it together with some funky rhythms, add some Peter Gabriel and soulful vocals, and you've got Seal! (his first 2 CD's, anyway.) However, I'd love to hear/make some instrumental music in this style. BTW Jim Bordner, I laughed my ass of at the analogy about writing about music. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif It could also be said about talking about music. If you don't mind, I'm going to STEAL that! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Peace all, Steve ><> Steve

I've also heard Leonard Bernstein and Frank Zappa. But I don't think it was any of them. I think it was Jim Bordner. Chick Corea and Dave Grusin will probably boil him alive. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
notazappa
Interesting. I have been writing what I like to call "heavy mellow". Think Yanni meets Collective Soul.

Llarion
You don't have to make a CD; if you have a way to record at all, record into your PC, and make some music! There are lots of programs out there to record with that are super cheap! ------------------ Cheers! Phil "Llarion: The Jazzinator" Traynor www.mp3.com/llarion Smooth Jazz Cheers! Guest Room Warrior
Magpel is correct... that quote has been recirculated for so long, I didn't bother to attribute it. Elvis Costello? Tha'sa new one on me. Man, he's a genius, but that quote's been around since before he was born, I think. Anybody have a copy of Bartlett's? I'd love to know who they give it to... - Jim Bordner Jim Bordner Gravity Music "Tunes so heavy, there oughta be a law."
