Can someone finish this?

Several years ago, pinned up on the bulletin board backstage at a now extinct casino lounge, was a funny (and mostly true) one page article titled "You Know You're A Gigging Musician When..."

Does anyone know what book or mag this article this came from? If not, maybe we can make up our own answers! Here were some I remember;

You own your own roll of duct tape with your name on it.

You've ever pushed a broken down equipment van more than a quarter mile.

You can change drivers in the equipment van without pulling over.

Your stage rig outvalues the vehicle you carry it in.

You carry spare guitar strings in your wallet.

You're no longer offended when you tell someone you're a musician, and they're unable to hide their shock, contempt, and pity.

Does this ring a bell with anyone out there? If not, let's make up our own!

Peace all,

Steve

...when reheated wedding food is the highlight of your diet.

...when you can't go to the store without packing a roll of duct tape.

...when you'd be really excited about an audition for the Air Supply Reunion Tour.

...when "morning" and "afternoon" mean the same time of day.

...when fifty bucks for a night's work sounds just about right.

...when you find yourself boiling strings.

...when shorting guitar cords are "just part of your tone."

...when your amp no longer feels heavy and the bar no longer seems smoky.

...when you typically eat "breakfast" between three and four in the morning.

...when the spring reverb in your Fender amp sounds better than the Lexicon in the studio.

...when you dress like an extra from 'Rocky Horror' - and that's when you're NOT gigging.

...when your dating criteria becomes "18 and willing."

...when you start believing that Bud really IS the king of beers.

...Your equipment is worth more than your car, by a factor of FIVE.

...You remember you once had kids, and now you don't know who all these adults are in your house.

...You get to the bar before it opens to set up, and the smell of cigarettes and stale beer no longer repulses you.

...220 volts no longer bother you. It's just a mild buzz.

...Your ears are so shot, you say "What?" more than your grandfather.

...You haven't bought a roll of toilet paper or a shot glass in 9 years.

...To hell with the 18 and WILLING. 18 is all you need.

...You could outdrink the 3rd Marine Division.

...you can drive the equipment truck home while asleep, and have.

Ouch!!! Although "really excited" wouldn't be how I'd describe it, I did tour with Air Supply in 1991.

Unexpected "really exciting" side benefit: I met my wife while on tour with them in Colombia. Married her 2 years later and we now have 2 sons (7 1/2 years & 2 months)

Unexpected embarassing side note: being at a party watching the expressions on people's face change when after your friend mistakenly announces that you're the keyboard player for Aerosmith, you have to explain that "no, it's actually Air Supply" (polite ooohhhh's all around)

NOW we're gettin' somewhere! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif Here's a few more;

...You've never had to buy a bar of soap in your life, and you've got a few dozen stashed in a drawer.

...You never use a shampoo bottle bigger than your thumb.

...Your linen closet is full of plain white towels.

...A set of tires barely lasts you a year.

...You've driven every mile of highway in at least 2 states.

...You've eaten in every Denny's west of the Mississippi.

...Even though you don't smoke, you're considered a high risk for life insurance because of your exposure to second-hand smoke.

Peace all,

Steve

...In order to get anywhere, you just need the name of the nearest bar - even if it's 3 states away.
