But unfortunately you're correct! At least from a musical standpoint - nothing in current POPULAR music resembles anything happening in the late 60s - 70s scene. I eagerly await the day when the newest KingCrimson tune gets airplay LOL

I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist.

This ain't no track meet; this is football.

Guess someone would have to put some major acid in teenyboppers zit cream for that to happen.

Ashley: "Have you heard the new Britney tune?"

Robbie: "Oh yeah she's reeally hot...uh...wow...here, try some of my zit cream"

Ashley: "Totally awesome" (both smear zit cream on their faces...after about an hour...)

Ashley: "Dude...Britney should do a duet with Ravi Shankar"

Robbie: "Britney sucks...the walls are melting"

(They both call up the KHOT hitline):

"Dude, how 'bout some King Crimson!"

DJ: "You're like the 2000th caller for that, what's going on?"

Ted-Man,

Good thing I'm not a KEYBOARD player, or I'd be REALLY mad! http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif

Well, the last King Crimson album actually did get quite a bit of airplay, I bought the album after hearing it on KROQ here in LA. I'm sure it got a lot more play in other cities, Los Angeles is the worst radio market in the country.

Just wanted to clear that up a bit, But, I know what you're saying. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

KEYBOARDISTS - I APOLOGIZE!!

I went over to the Guitar forum and noted that I found it curious that guitarists, taken as an aggregate, tend to seek reassurance from each other with regard to the relevance of their heros. I mentioned that players of other instruments simply like or dislike an artist without seeking each others' approval.

Tedster is giving me a little jab for my observations; I apologize it this thread is offensive to anyone. He's just trying to be humorous in his own way. He's a guitarist, so please don't judge him too harshly. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif If you feel the need to flame someone, you can flame me for starting this. I should have known... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/frown.gif

Keith Emerson may not be much in the limelight nowadays, but his contributions to keyboardists still exists today.

There aren't very many rock keyboardists will admit that they haven't been inspired by KE's playing. Even if Keith's ONLY contribution was inspiring a keyboardist to go out and play better or harder or whatever.... that in itself is notable.

No one cares about Jessie Owens running around a track nowadays, except the thousands of other runners so inspired, you know? http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

All I will say is that I am too young to apriciate Emerson`s music. Maybe I just grew up on some different inffluences, or I did not listen very well. But if somebody IS a keboard hero - that is Mr. Emerson for sure.

ROFL.

It's good of you to take the time to point out that Emerson is insignificant.

Hmm, I wonder why you picked on him out of all the keyboardists? http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif

It was a joke...you'd have had to be reading the guitar forum...there was a thread where all the guitar folks were debating the validity of Clapton...and Dansouth posted something to the effect of "You'd never hear keyboard players arguing that Emerson was insignificant, or bass players arguing that Pastorius was insignificant" so I thought I'd stir the pot a little...hehehehehe...

All in good fun...

Good grief! Isn't that what they said about Charlie Brown? I guess the fact that I'm bad once in awhile is my saving grace...hehehehe http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I just purchased "Three: To The Power of Three". It was very cool to hear this after so many years, it's one of my favorite Keith Emerson albums. My band in high school actually played "Talkin Bout" at an Eight Grade dance, in retrospect maybe not such a hot dance number.

Anyhow, after several fruitless Napster searches for "Desde la Vida" http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif, I finally found the album on Amazon for $7. I've seen the cassette for $1 several times. It's a great album with great playing and killer arrangements. (OK, you can ridicule me now.) I mean, the songs are total cheese, and the mix couldn't have more reverb on it if they had lacquered the Grand Canyon, but the arrangements! The solos! The complete overuse of D-50 Presets (especially DigitalNativeDance)!

If you dig 80's prog power trios, check this out. -jl

Just picking nits:

1) Insignificant or not, Emerson WAS not.... To my knowledge, he's still playing.

2) Of the entire Emerson catalog, "Three to the Power of Three" is the absolute worst IMO. Well, maybe a tie with "Love Beach" and "In the Hot Seat". Try "Pictures at an Exhibition" or "Brain Salad Surgery" instead.

mm, sorry - in a bad mood today
