Allan Speers Posted April 29, 2001 Posted April 29, 2001 I have heard rumors of some new sampler software that supposedly will do the Giga endless-wave type thang, but have much better software implemantation. I will not go near a company with as bad tech support, and bad track record of fixing bugs, as Nemsys. So, this is awfully intriguing. Can't find info on this anywhere. Is it vaporware, or does someone know what's up?
Steve44 Posted April 30, 2001 Posted April 30, 2001 The only new sampler software that I've heard of is Halion and Sampletank. As far as I know they both have RAM based samples, so I don't see how either one would really be Giga-competitors. Sampletank really does think it's the $hit though, and has some stupid compression claims of 5 to 1 or something. Big deal! But it does suck that Nemesys is so bad with tech support. Have you seen the FAQ on their website? It's like 3 years old!

Kevin Maynard Posted May 1, 2001 Posted May 1, 2001 Sonar has a software sample built in it. Also Reason from bitheadz is very good. But if you insist on using Gigastudio/sampler then go on Cubase.net and look for the GSFIX program. It allows you to use Cubase and GigaStudio simultaneously. Nice little program and it works well. Steve44 Posted May 6, 2001 Posted May 6, 2001 Geez.. you guys don't read your Musikmesse coverage! Here's Harmony-Central's and here's SonicState's and, gee.. there's always www.sampletank.com (who the heck else would have that website name?) Anyhow.. it's a VST sampler-instrument with a built in RAM doubler and it comes with 2.5 Gigabytes of sounds. It also claims to be 128 voice capable and super duper powerful.. but it's certainly no Giga-killer. It doesn't mention anything about its synth parameters.. not even filters, so it doesn't excite me much at all. You can download a demo for free.. I couldn't find any information on that GSFIX on the cubase site, and I'm intrigued about that software...
soapbox Posted May 7, 2001 Posted May 7, 2001 ...or you could look at the full page Sampletank ad in this month's Keyboard Magazine! (a nod to The Keyboard Corner's sponsors) It's on page 39. BTW Dave, you spend so much time interacting with us, I don't hold it against you if you miss a little reading. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif This message has been edited by soapbox on 05-07-2001 at 03:11 AM Enthusiasm powers the world.
