Steve LeBlanc
You know that feeling when you get your piano tuned? I got mine tuned yesterday and was inspired to mic it up and just play. Here's an impromptu version of 'Alone Together'. Definitely not a 'composed' thing nor polished. Just letting loose and going a little nuts. wmp
You know that feeling when you get your piano tuned? I used to. Long ago. Not so much recently. I got mine tuned yesterday and was inspired to mic it up and just play. Here's an impromptu version of 'Alone Together'. Definitely not a 'composed' thing nor polished. Just letting loose and going a little nuts. Not composed, not polished, letting loose, and going nuts. Real piano. In tune. That my favorite flavor. Got any more? Bobadohshe
Thank you guys. It's only a matter of time until I play that first note or interval that makes me wince a little bit and say 'damn, it's going out of tune again.' Hopefully that's months away. I love that tune ! Fwiw, sometimes I harmonize that D Maj7 with a F# triad over D. Just try to sneak it in subtlety so it doesn't sound too over done. I love Maj7+5 chords. That D major already sticks out because its major. I was making it a #11 sometimes in my version. I have to give that Maj7+5 a try. kanker.
That's a hard song, like an obstacle course, the section going to the Bm7-E7 to Gm7-C7 to F then the 2-5 to D major. Sounds great Bobby! Dave, I dig the A with these changes - | D- | E-7b5 A7 | D- | E-7b5 A7 | D- C#7 | C- F7 | Bb maj | % | B- E7 | Bb- Eb7 | F maj | E-7b5 A7 | D maj | % | The melody still works just fine, but the turnaround going to the F is just "nicer" musically and is easier to play, and it just sounds more natural. kanker.
One of the other things that's fun about that tune is trading with a drummer. The first 2 A's are 14 bars, so you can do 8/6 bar trades or 6/8 trades, or if you're geniuses, 7/7 bar trades. Quote A ROMpler is just a polyphonic turntable. I like it. Not only the Bbm7-Eb7 but the way the melody sounds starting on the 6th of the Bb Maj. 7 and goes up to the third. It is different. I think it might be a typo 'cause you have a 13 bar phrase there. I think you meant Dm7 C#7 | Cm7 F7| then to the Bb as opposed to a beat apiece for those 4 chords. Not to keep bringing him up, but that Bbm7 Eb7 move sounds like something Hank Jones would do. Yeah, you're right. Should be two beats apiece on that walk down. Thanks man! scottasin
Thanks for the kind words folks, I'm glad we've gotten the reception we have, we worked really hard on that. We recorded it all in our basement, our drummer did all of the recording and mixing. Its the first of 4 songs we're gonna be puttin out in the next few weeks. Also, I'm not in GR anymore (forgot to change my location on my profile), but we'll be back for a few shows this summer.
