As beta tester under NDA, I am limited in what I am able to discuss about Alesis' affairs.

I am sure that Alesis has to be talking about doing a rack version of Andromeda...that's no secret - people have conjecturing on the subject since Andy was first shown at the last Winter NAMM show. However, companies do R&D constantly, and many products never make it to market for one reason or another, so it's best not to try and speculate what they might be doing.

Basically - it ain't out until it's out - even if it's been announced - see: Nanotracker ;-/

I could discuss the concepts that are important here: As a rack, the Andromeda loses most of its knobs, thereby making a much tougher user-interface (but it is possible and probably workable). You'd still want to own the keyboard itself if you did any programming (how rich are you?)

It would lose the big ribbon, a VERY important controller for those who know them. I suppose it would also be a pretty big dang rack - like 18 or 20 spaces to be sensible.

I suppose they'd have to write all new code - as the windows would change and the button presses would not be the same. That would take a while. Wouldn't it be better to sell someone else's keyboard and get their rack version to make "space" for an Andromeda? The Andromeda seems to be a pretty serious instrument for any keyboard owner, no matter what your level. It is very likely that no one will match it or replace it (not even Alesis) with another model...

Relax and float downstream...

I agree here.....the Andromeda is a big step toward the return of a truly playable instrument. I can't wait to try out that ribbon! If the come out with a rack version, i hope it is something that could be used to expand a keyboard as opposed to a compromise toward squeezing the keyboard into a rack.

Whatever happened to the NanoTracker? The DataDisk was indispensable back in the day...

"For instance" is not proof.

The people writing the software couldn't get it to work properly, so Alesis had to abandon it. The lesson? Never announce a product until you're sure it...y'know...works.

I still have one. It lights up, but doesn't really do anything else.

Wow this thread threw me off for awhile until I realized that it was from 2000.

Yeah, that post above was probably my first one nearly a decade ago.

Still have the Andromeda, btw (below Voyager in avatar).

theres a hot dog restaurant where I live that has a huge hammond clock o the wall. Every time I see it, it makes me smile to think of what it's given us.

(and they make literally the best hot dogs ever. If you're ever in grand rapids, go to yesterdog, you won't regret it)
