What gear are you currently lusting after? New or used...synth? Piano? Sampler? Computer program? New mixer for your rig?

What's keeping you from getting it? Saving up? Waiting for the price to drop? Hoping to find a used one? Wishing that Santa will think that you've been good this year?

I already have too many synthesizers. I'd like a new 750MHz computer for Christmas, please! I'd wish for a nice big mixer (preferably with motorized faders), but I don't know where in my small studio I'd put it.

Actually, the item at the top of my wish list isn't equipment, it's time. For starters, I wish I had about three years to explore the world of Linux music software.

Cubase 5.0 & the Midex8 for Windows.

After all these years I am still sequencing with my Atari Mega STE 4. Now it is time to change. Thanks to MIDI Timing Precision from Steinberg, the timing will become as good as on my Atari.

I know outside Europe the Atari isn't much used as a midi sequencer, but both Emagic and Steinberg started with Atari products.

I think I will keep using my Akai DR4d for audio recordings. Why? There is no rational explanation for this. I just love MACHINES...

I lust for more time to use the equipment that I already have, plus an engineering staff to keep it running smoothly. http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/smile.gif

That said, the T.C. Electronic M6000 looks very nice, but it would be overkill for my setup. I've considered the Mackie d8b and HDR2496 combo, but again, it's more than I need, plus I think that this technology will be available at a more attractive price in the future.

Neumann mics are always nice.

I also dream of a complete, no compromises, laptop based recording and composing system that I can take anywhere. Anybody have any suggestions as to what would work well in this context? It has to be build around Logic Audio. Sound quality has to be top notch, plus it has to be portable and easy to use.

I would like a time machine to go back 18 months, and then the wisdom to think twice before selling my Rhodes Chroma!

Better yet, I just want the beast back home!

As a second choice, I'd like a fast and powerful new computer (my current one, isn't really worth to upgrade), so I can finally start to streamline my studio and seriously use the softsynths...

Or, mics, preamps and compressors so I can stop spending money in external studios in order to record the acoustic stuff...

But, as a last thought... I'm pretty happy with the gear I have! I still have tons of music to squeeze off my machines. Maybe a Virus Indigo, yes, I would LOVE it; but I don't really NEED it, you know? I've never been so happy with what I have. Call it maturity....(also, my mixer inputs are all used, so any new synth would force me to buy a new mixer)

Oh yeah, I thought of something: A good trackball! Not too out of reach. And new monitors. AND a Virus Indigo, and a new mixer. And my Chroma back. and.........

Gotta admit, I can't wait to check out the Andromeda. My ears are still bleeding from the NAMM demo last February. If I can get it to do the Eddie Jobson "Alaska" sound than I can honestly say I may never need to buy another synth again (famous last words!).

What's keeping you from getting it?

Well, it would be nice to see it in the stores in the next few days......

You may get your wish. I believe that Andy is slated to ship this week.

It is my understanding that the Alesis people have been working their little tails off to try and make this happen.

Peeps,

An E-Magic Unitor 8 Mk.II. The rep. we've been dealing with for other purchases says there is a 3 week wait to get one. Can definatly afford one. But looks like we just can't get our hands on one. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Peace, Gone.

I'm currently lusting after a certain Matrix-12 that needs a home, but I've gotta stop buying synths...

I think the time has come to ask Santa for a new mixing console - my old one has more problems than any other piece of gear in my studio. So, now I have to struggle with a pretty major decision - do I:

1) stay analog

2) go digital, or

3) get a couple more MOTU boxes to go along with my 2408 and just take the whole thing into the computer?

I'm way open to people's experiences/opinions on this topic...

I would ask Santa for the new Emu Mo' Phatt module, but.... I already got it. Ooh, I know a new Roland board.... Sorry, I already just got that too. How a Gigasampler.... Nope, just got that also.

What I really need for Christmas is the patience to read all three of these manuals. That's what I really need.

Oh, Santa: Please bring me an Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96, and maybe those Mackie monitors, and I'd love an Emu E4 Ultra like my friend Timmy has. Oh, and a new house with the room for all this stuff.

And as far as wanting a keyboard back...I sure wish I hadn't sold my minimoog for rent money back in '89.

Hey Dave, just a suggestion: forget the computer stuff and get the Matrix-12.

It's magic. I use mine every day.

The gear I am looking for doesn't yet exist. It would be like a nord modular but warmer and more lush. Like an analog polysynth but with significantly more (and flexible) modulation routings, preferably with the ability to patch modules in from the ground up. It would contain the ability to define various note priority schemes, and envelope triggers so that it can function as a flexible monosynth (moog, arp, roland) emulator. It would run on hardware. It would have waft and punch.

Hopefully it would be available with a keyboard and some decent controllers (knobs, ribbons, light beams etc.)

Am I talking about the Andromeda? I don't know yet. But it could be son of andromeda (or son of nord modular). I am waiting to find out.

I would be willing to compromise on the controllers, since that can be assembled from 3rd parties... but not on the sound, not on the flexibility of sound, not on the controllability of sound.

Cheers,

Jerry

It may be past the holidays, but I finally remember which specific piece of gear I want more than all others... it was hard to remember because I'm currently lusting after so many things from Gigagiga to Electribe Sample to Tactex pad.

What I want is a Roland HPD-15 Hand percussion controller. I've always loved hand percussion, just can't get enough of playing a djembe, but in addition to it being an awesome array of percussion sounds and ideas, I want it as a left hand controller addition for my kebyboard. Think of it - there's a position and pressure sensitive pad, a DBeam, two ribbons, several knobs... I almost just want it so that I can wave my left hand over it and hit it from time to time.

Then again, I should probably just get a Tactex or an Airfx or an expressionmate..

errrggghh.. too many things to buy.

I wish for a job that pays a livable wage. Then I might be able to buy some new musical toys, eventually. Santa has had a hole in his bag by the time he got around to Mike's house the last couple of years. :rimshot:

My Top Ten List:

1. Peace on Earth

2. Less political divisivness

3. A next generation iPhone with more memory, and hopefully a choice of carriers

4. An Audio Unit instrument that covers the full range of Rhodes, including the Dyno-My-Piano versions. (Essentially, all the Rhodes sounds that come in the Motif Series, but in a softsynth.)

5. A GREAT, playable Pop/Funk/Rock brass library that really kicks butt, along the lines of Jerry Hey and Earth Wind and Fire. Even the multi thousand dollar "Broadway Big Band" library doesn't cut it.

6. The breakup of the corporate monopoly of Radio and the end of payola

7. The end of celebrity "news"

8. The return of "musicians" that actually know how to play an instrument

9. No more record company focus on the young demographic

10a. The end of political agendas being surreptitiously snuck into educational curricula and taught as "fact".

10b. The end of political agendas being surreptitiously snuck into News Programs and reported as "fact".

10c. For the masses to stop believing everything that they're told in 10a and 10b, to be more discerning and inquisitive and to learn to think for themselves.

Hmmmm...I really want good sound quality and I am interested in samples, but have no idea how to use them, what programs to use, tec.

I've heard that the Yamaha MOTIF is a good sounding keyboard and I would want that, but I think samples would be more versatile and flexible. So I want better sound quality for Christmas! That's all!

My wish list?

1.) More time to practice.

2.) A full-time cartage, roadie, keyboard tech.

A rich sounding table top analog monosynth with pure analog signal path and strong midi-CV integration. A P01 or LP ... tabletop edition. One knob per function not required but with a playable interface.

What cnegrad said.

+ it would be nice to take a year's sabbatical and travel around a bit, record with people from different countries, eat food, drink stuff.

Be nice to get back to Sweden too.....

So I guess I really want a big stocking stuffed with cash. :thu:

I thought that was a joke or a new fangled computer spec I never heard of until I read that the Andromedas were shipping!!

Funny...

I have too many synths (I just picked up a NL2x). There's nothing out there that does what I want it to for a reasonable price. Although the Nord Wave may be getting close to it.. but, at $2600, that's still too steep for my taste...

What he said. Seven years ago, LOL.

I love my gear, but just have no time to mess with it. :(

OTOH, I'm playing and writing more than ever, so that's good, I guess. Playing's more fun than acquiring. A little bit, anyhow.

2. 23" Cinema (or 42" LCD, which is far cheaper)

3. Atmosphere

4. Call of Duty 4...wait, wrong forum...!

5. Genelec sub

Well, I wasn't on the list 7 years ago ( 750 Mhz computers, hilarious), so here's my 2007 wishlist.

1. An end to the craziness in Iraq so my nephew can come home and be with his new daughter

2. Peace, health, and happiness to everyone, whether they deserve it or not.

3. (now onto the things I have a chance of actually getting)

A Nord Electro 73 or a Nord Electro Rack, so I can get the main sounds I use live (Rhodes/Hammond) without using the laptop.

4. Getting my Minimoog fixed. A few keys misfire, and the pitch bend wheel doesn't always return to pitch when in the center detent. There's a good tech in Portland, and I'm just waiting for the $$ to make it happen. My new avant soul jazz quartet is just crying for some moogin'.

5. A more reliable and spacious car. My keyboard rig actually fits into my tiny Mazda MX-6, but my bass rig doesn't.

6. More time to practice, and the will and focus to actually do so.
