Yes it is - under news bytes:

New Performance Synthesizer

Status Report

Earlier this year we announced that we were designing an analog monophonic New Performance Synthesizer. Since then weve gotten lots of inquiries from musicians around the world, who want to know when our new instrument will be available and what features it will have. Heres our status report as of November, 2000.

When Will It Be Available?

At the present time, we are putting the finishing touches on the design. We expect to complete the design in a few months, and to start building and shipping instruments during the year 2001.

I am told it will be at the NAMM Show - working. As with all products (and companies big and small) you know this is a good intent; the sales that happen from a "new product" at NAMM are great. But, I'd rather they not "hurry it" and get it right - no one will beat it when it's done, and it may replace the Minimoog I use ALL THE TIME.

Big Briar has often had a just-finished prototype at the Show, and it is usually a hit. (MoogerFooger Phaser, Control Voltage Processor)

Amen. As an owner and rabid advocate of the MF Phaser and LPF pedals, and with the CV processor next in my sights, I know that I'll be at that booth on the first day of the show to see what he's got.

Interesting Tidbit regarding the New Performance Synth:

If you remember the EM issue about alternate controllers, you've probably seen the beautiful MTC Express from Tactex, the five point hand sensor thingy. I drool over that, since to me it's like a cheap version of Buchla's Thunder, and more flexible in some ways, except that it has to be hooked to a pc.

Anyways, at the beginning of the issue there's a neat little announcement under "Key Changes":

"Tactex has announced that its touch-sensitive smart-fabric control surface has been licensed for use on Big Briar's forthcoming Performance Synth. The padded surface will give players gestural control over a variety of Performance Synth paramters."

IMHO, this is the single reason why we did not see the Performance Synth in 2000. Moog obviously saw this thing and thought, man now I've gotta redesign the whole product around this pad. I think it's definitely worth it - this controller is lightyears ahead the stupid Korg XY pad or even the Alesis AirFX. I can't wait to see how it's implemented on the Big Briar keyboard...

So, was it shown at NAMM? From what I've read, unlike last year, there wasn't even a proto-type shown. Was this true?

Yep. When I asked Bob why it wasn't there, he just shrugged. He said that they don't exhibit at the Messe, and that he thought that the next show that we'd see it at would be Summer NAMM.

Check out http://www.tactex.com

Notice that's now available to order online, and that down below on the products page you can see what I'm guessing Moog will be using.. the OEM model.

Big Briar is a small company, but as you can see from their gear, it arrives fully-designed. Bob is no doubt producing yet another classic, which will be worth the wait. I'm very interested in hooking it up to my modular as the PS will have a large array of CV/Gate ins and outs!
Give me the ANALOG and no one gets HURT
