will7370tao.sou.edu Posted October 15, 2000 Posted October 15, 2000 Okay folks, I've spent a lot of time putting together the ultimate Arp Odyssey information resource web page. I've really tried to provide every possible related topic someone would be interested in. But I'm still looking for more input and content submissions. Here's the URL: http://www.overacker.com/ody/index.html Rob Williams
Dave Bryce Posted October 15, 2000 Posted October 15, 2000 Rob - The site looks great! Very thorough - I really like the JPEG patch sheets...*with* colored slider caps, thankyouverymuch... A synth freak with whom I am associated is currently modding an Odyssey into one of the most warped synths that I have ever seen...if I can talk him out of keeping it off Ebay, it's mine... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <== Professional Affiliations: Royer Labs • Music Player Network
will7370tao.sou.edu Posted October 15, 2000 Author Posted October 15, 2000 Hey Dave, If you can get your friend who is modifying that Odyssey to send me some pictures and a short narrative as to what he is doing, I would LOVE to feature it on our Mods section of the Oddy web page. I'm trying to accumulate as much Oddy mod info as I possibly can, if for nothing else than to give other people ideas about what can be done. Also if your friend is interested, I can list him as an Oddy tech for repairs or mods in our Tech section. Rob

Rob I'll pass along the info. Somehow I have a feeling that may increase his asking price, though... http://www.musicplayer.com/ubb/wink.gif dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <== Professional Affiliations: Royer Labs • Music Player Network
Mad_Maestro Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 I couldn't get your link to work. I love the Arp Odessey's sound on Elton John's Rocket Man. Although I've never gotten to play one.
orangefunk Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Thats an Arp 2600 played by David Henschel (sp?).. what amazes me about that solo is that its only the chord tones yet it sounds so great... In fact that solo was probably the earliest use of synth I can remember... (I guess I was around 4 or 5 when it was out). Looking back its also one of those solos which makes you forget its actually a synth as its so integral to the record...
DanS Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 My brother borrowed one off a buddy briefly when I was a kid. We had a lot of fun with it, but man did that thing have trouble holding the tuning!I managed to get the cool sample&hold burble from Karn Evil 9 with it though! MikeT156 Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 All synths were flakey in the tuning department back in those days. The key was to keep the synth in a room with a constant temperature. If you used it to gig, it could be a major PITA. Still, the Odyssey is quite the capable synth. I still have mine, as my Keytar illustrates. Mike T. MikeT156 Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Dan: Picky, picky. What's the difference? I still have my Odyssey. Mike T. zeronyne Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 I couldn't get your link to work. Well, considering that this thread is 8 years old, it's no surprise that it has moved: RELOCATION OF THE ARP ODYSSEY PAGES "For instance" is not proof.
