soapbox
Okay, I'll admit that the title of this thread is over the top. :D However, thanks to those who are willing to make charitible donations for each day that we click on one of their links, we can easily make a difference that matters. There's a thread in The Keyboard Corner that goes into more detail. Follow the link below to find out more: Vote For Fave Football Team & Feed The Hungry! b3keys, who started the thread, links to one of these sites in his first post. I added more links to other similar charitible sites a few posts later. I apologize for the spam. Ordinarily I wouldn't do this; but it's for several good causes, and all that it takes to help are a few mouse clicks. If you're so inclined, take a minute and check it out. patrick_dont_fret
My problem with those is simple. How do you know they are really giving money for each time you click that link? I know they can keep track of hits with counters, but how do you really know any money is being given to these charities? It might just be some vicious attempt to get people to click those links. What would you do if a porn site did something like this, claiming to give money to all the mistreated children in the world? Sounds a little fishy to me. Ponder a while and I'll get back to you. soapbox
Patrick, I can't deny the possibility that your concerns are valid. It's true that with any charity, we don't know for sure where the money is going. We rely on our legal system to uncover fraud. Sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn't. At the same time, I have a hard time believing that most or all charities are scams. If most aren't, then the odds are that these aren't as well. It's good to keep in mind that if you give your hard-earned money to a bogus charity, then you've lost your money. On the other hand, if you click on links for a bogus charity, then you've only lost a minute or two of your time. In most endeavors, we don't know whether or not the use of our time will be productive. I don't know if this post will make a difference, but that doesn't stop me from trying. The same goes for my time with these charities. My advice is to go to the sites. If they don't look on the up and up to you, then don't waste any more time. As for me, I think they're legit. Mats Olsson.
I find it hard to believe that NFL and Campbells would take the risk of jeopardising their names by supporting a food donations program that wasn't for real. /Mats http://www.lexam.net/peter/carnut/man.gif What do we want? Synthguy
I choose to donate to charities with money from my pocket. That way it actually counts. Outside of the college students, I am probably the poorest of the members here, and I've still managed to eek out at least $75 a month to needy charities. And I'd point out, charities that actually NEED the money, not the big names with government support. I would urge all of us to remember those of us who can't go to the government for often generous handouts, and give to those organizations helping them accordingly. I would also like to point out that the budget to the Department of Education is $47.6 billion. My question is, what in the name of GOD are they doing with all that money?? They certainly aren't doing much educating... This keyboard solo has obviously been tampered with!
Dak Lander
To those of you who may be skepticle, this is a valid offer & doesn't cost you any thing except the time it takes to go to the site & click on your teams helmet icon. Go to the Campbells Soup web site. Find the "Visit one of our products" button & click it. Then select the Campbells @ Chunky soups link & click it. It'll take you to THE CHUNKY SOUP site where you'll find the information. They've been doing this for a couple of years. Salyphus
My question about these schemes is, if they have money to donate then why don't they just donate it? Asking people to click links to persuade them to donate seems insincere and manipulative to me. Of course I could be wrong ;)
