Most popular record/album played at your late night parties

Recommended Posts

I have a pretty large record collection. I often have late night parties/gatherings after shows etc. I'd guess some of you do as well... My question is, what album is most often in your player or requested to get the bootys shakin' late night... Lately at my place it's been Michael Jackson's Thriller (believe it or not... I can't)!!! It's just too damn funky and the ladies love it... A close second is Shakedown Street (Grateful Dead). On a side note I thought it was interesting that this album was produced by Lowell George (Little Feat).

Parties at the crib... Lil Jill Scott for the wine sipping sets.. Pfunk greatest hits(The bomb) for the live "booty shakin" crowd or BBQ's.. Prince's bootleg 'live in small club' for the ladies.. Marvin Gaye's greatest for the singers.. Trouble Funk mixed tape for the drummers.. Donny Hathaway live for the musicians.. Crusaders for the musicians.. Classic Santana for the musicians and the youth(teaching mode).. Stevie Ray Vaughn to impress my friends.. Remy Shan for the CD to take to sets at other people's house.. And of course.. The Best Of Special Ed(rap) For the ultimate 'Get your shit off' dance party...nothin betta!

I'm not a big fan, but I find that INXS is the ultimate late night party music. People always become lively when I put this on. Talking Heads or B-52's work well, also. The worst late night party albums are Floyd's Dark Side or anything by Neil Young, because everyone will crash within ten minutes if you play these.

The Black Knight always triumphs!

The "Lay Down and Love It Live" album is always a fave at parties :thu: Same thing happens to me, though - everyone always wants to know who it is. dB

Thanks for the Sonia Dada link... Been listening to their radio feed and it's killer... they have totally original vocal qualities!!! How about Sea Level... Chuck Levels band from the 70s ... sick piano driven southern rock... Shake a Rag Mamma!

Funny, I've recently burned a comp CD especially for those late nighters. These always go over well with me stoner mates. Revolution - Beatles 1969 - Iggy Saturday Night's all right.. - Elton Hash Pipe - Weezer Hush - Deep Purple You Really Got me - Kinks The Real Me - The Who Land of 1000 dances - Wilson Pickett Who do you Love - The Woolies Hate to say I told you so - The Hives Yer Blues - Beatles Deal with the Preacher - Bad Co. One Toke over the Line - Brewer & Shipley Sunshine - Johnathan Edwards Molly's Lips - Nirvana Mr. Customs Man - Arlo Guthrie Matt
In two days, it won't matter.

If we're talking about getting the energy going... various funk and disco compilations, including "Pure Funk", "Pure Disco", "Forward in Funk", Millenium Funk Party", "In Yo' Face", "The Funk Box" and other various comps, as well as the Prince Boxed Set and "Dirty Mind" and "Controversy". To be funny, a great thing to sneak in are a few cuts from "Cambodian Rocks",which features some really great high-energy psychedelic guitar tracks with high-pitched nasaly female singers singing in Cambodian. If we are talking about sittin' and chillin', then things like Scientist "Heavyweight Dub Champion", Bob Marley, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Future Sound of London "Lifeforms", King Tubby, The Orb, Eleven Shadows "Irian Jaya", and other stuff with a really cool, easy pulse is great.. If it's really late and I want to clear a room, Tibetan monks chanting, "OHM: The Early Gurus of Electronic Music", anything that's vaguely "lo-fi", or band rehearsal cassettes usually does the trick.
